My Son and I ran a day trip on the OAT and were rejected on N4110 because of downed trees.
I tried to post a screen shot but was rejected on that to.

N4110 is located in South East Ok. West of Hugo off 109!

A buddy of mine and I are going to do a day and a half on the OAT starting this Friday. We plan on doing the Salina to Stillwell, Stillwell to Heavner and then the Heavner Challenge tracks. Hopefully camp somewhere in the Quachita National Forest for a night and backtrack up to Claremore to another buddy's place and where we plan on starting from. REALLY looking forward to this and wish we had time to ride more of it but will in the near future!! He's coming out of Austin, Tx. and I'm coming down from eastern, Ks. We'll take pics and write up a report. Thanks to everyone who's put all of the efforts into this trail. Now I'm thinking Kansas needs one too!!

OAT Danger4u2 panhandle spur

I felt the panhandle was the lonely step child so I made the OAT Danger4u2 panhandle spur. Feel free to use it but I have not
traveled the route yet. Part of the reason for the new route was to include Black Mesa the highest point in Okla. It also travels through
the Black Kettle National Grassland in Western Okla. The start in Sayre peels off of the original OAT and heads
NNW. The end ties back to the original OAT North of Cherokee and West of The Great Salt Plains.
My plans are to do the route in the next 10 days if everything works out.
Garman Map Source says the route is 730 miles and travel time is 27.8 hours.
With stops for fuel, food and picture breaks it looks to be a long 2 day trip.
Black Mesa being the somewhat halfway point I plan on throwing a tent somewhere in the area.
This does not take into account the mapping is not good around Black Mesa.
That area may add 20/40 miles and 2/4 hours.
Take a look and let me know what you think. Other places of interest might make me do some detours
from my mapped route.

On your spur, at the very farthest west, if you keep going a couple more miles you will come to monument that is at the corner of where the three states meet. It is kinda cool.

The reason the pan handle was left out was because no one wants to drive down it. The TAT goes straight down the pan handle, and everyone i've ever met who has ridden the TAT complained about the pan handle section.

Personally i like the pan handle.

Garman Map Source was a little vague in the Black Mesa area so I just ended it
near the Mesa trail. I use DeLorme Okla. Atlas & Gazetteer.
It shows many roads in the area. I will check out the 3 corners.
Can the bike be driven to the Mesa Monument and the 3 corner monument?

I haven't been there, but according to both Google Maps (satellite view) and City Navigator 2012, you can ride right up to the monument.

You can ride up to the 3 corner monument easily. I don't believe you can ride to the Black Mesa monument, but not positive about that.

From the parking lot it's a 4 mile hike. First 2 miles are flat the next 2 are up hill.
This guy had a bicycle and rode most of the way.

Hello Danger4U2

I was looking at your spur... if you follow it in google maps using satellite view, you might find some of the roads are on private property, gated off or not roads at all... I am including a link where you can view a google map version of your spur. Go to the upper right hand corner of the map and click on the drop down and you should be able to change to satellite view.

DANGER4U2 PANHANDLE SPUR LINK

Also if I could make a suggestion. What about changing the upper section to head down to Alabaster Caverns, then go by Little Sahara State Park, then hit Highway 412 west of Gloss Mountains State Park. Gloss Mountains is a really cool view to hike up to and very scenic... And if you are going to go all the way down the Pan Handle you might as well see a couple of other interesting sites in Oklahoma.

Dadayama,
I'm still on the GPS learning curve and I would appreciate any pointers you could lend.
I looked at a lot of satellite imagery but not with the spur overlay.
That's a cool feature. Need to have you walk me thru on how to do that.
I thought about Alabaster Caverns

but I've been there and although it is interesting I left it off. It can easily be added to anyone's trip.
Same with Little Sahara Okla.(LS), been there so many times I still have sand in my tent if you look real hard.
Both are worth visiting if you have never been. At LS you can't see much unless you drive into the dunes.
That's $10 bucks and you have to have a flag pole. Not really worth it if you just want to look.
Most of the bikes that do this trip, I would think, are on the large size and would not want sand dunes.
On the other hand it would be a good camp site with hot showers. It's only $10 buck to throw a tent.

As for private property or locked gates, that's why we carry wire cutters. STOP. That is a joke.
I respect everyone's private property because I know what I would do to someone cutting my gate.
Gates, washed out roads, no longer maintained roads, bridges out..................................
That will add to the adventure.

The big issue on this trip for me is Black Mesa Monument. It's the high point in Okla.
I learned researching this trip that people do a "high point" list. This will be my first high point.
My riding buddy doesn't think he can or should do the hike. It's 8 plus miles and 4 of it is steep hills.
I'm 57 and he's in his mid 40's but he smokes like a freight train. I think if we take our time, water
and a few snacks it won't be a problem for me at least. I said I would carry his tent in case he can't
make it back. He didn't think that was funny.
