Here is the latest from Colleen.

Rob's sister reports that he is at home in Joshua Tree. His wife is working with hospice to care for him and his two children are also there. The morphine dose is increasing to manage pain, so sometimes he's aware and other times not.

Thanks Robert

Robert

Thank you so much for sharing your passion.

Your knowledge, advice and straight shooting approach has been of great benefit to countless members of our ADV community.

Your Avatar has always been my favourite and your brutally honest profile brought a huge smile to my face.

Specifically the section asking " Other Interests" .

In true Robert fashion your answer was " PERFECTLY SHAPED FEMALE RUMPS "

Robert you are " The Man "

I wish you peace, comfort and tranquility.

Paul

Dear Robert,

I hope that someone is still reading these posts to you and that you can take some pleasure in them. I met you shortly after I arrived at Bobs BMW. My first impression was that you were a grouch and that we would never get along. As time passed, though, we discovered common ground and became friends. Not "work friends", but the real thing, spending time together after work, and helping each other daily. One of my favorite memories is of the time you and Erin came over for dinner and you and I fell asleep on the couch watching a movie. Afterwards, you told everyone that you and I had slept together, and we both enjoyed the shocked looks. When Sue and I could no longer tolerate my stepson, you opened your door to him, and you became part of his extended family. You passed your R100 project on to me because you knew I would finish it in a way we would both be proud.

When you moved on, you made sure to stay in touch. I miss our weekly brain-storming, gossiping, story telling, bull-shitting phone calls. You made me several special tools which I treasure. You sent me parts for free or bartered for them. You freely shared your experience of what worked-or did not-on the bikes you were working on. You promoted my shop whenever you could.

I am sad that you have to leave us so early in life. It is said that you're not really gone until the last person who remembers you is, too. I will remember you as long as I am on this too short journey. Thank you for your many kindnesses and friendship.

Love,

Bud

thanks to all

Wow. The love from everyone here is breathtaking. I'm Rob's daughter Katie, posting from Philly. The amount of love from you folks for my dad just reminds me what an awesome guy he is, and how much he loved to share his vast knowledge with everyone. To everyone here who I've met in real life - Bud, Colleen, and probably others - thanks for the memories. I always loved hanging with Dad in his shop or at Bob's; and it's continued to inspire me as an artist and as a person. My sculpture studio was above a vintage motorcycle shop here in Philly for a few years since it 'felt like home.'

An update for anyone who needs one: Rob is at home in Joshua Tree under hospice care with his wife Alita. His phone is off and he can no longer take calls or answer emails. If you need to get a message to him, calling Alita or the landline, or sending a card is the best way.

Cancer fucking sucks, and this liver cancer that's shown up suddenly is aggressive and vast. Because it will likely take him from us soon, I'm thankful that my Dad has had a rich a fulfilling life with lots of admiration, adventures, and ladies who love him.

Love to all of you, and thanks. I'll continue to check this thread in case anyone needs other info. I know some of you have been posting photos of him in his shop or with bikes, and I'd like to share a photo from his personal life.
