Between Christmas and New Year's day, I dug into my 1150 to replace the clutch and clean up the combustion chambers. The bike had 101k miles on the clock, and I had a week off work to do the job, so the timing worked out well. During that job, I found the upper exhaust valve in the left head was burned. Not having the time or resources to do a full valve job on the head, I took some careful measurements and determined that a simple valve replacement *might* work. A call to Max got a set of valve seals and a new exhaust valve on the way. When they arrived, I put it all together, crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. Using the right cylinder as a reference, the left was near exactly identical for hot and cold compression.
Today marked the 5k mile anniversary, I rechecked compression. Both cylinders were equal with each other AND the readings taken just after reassembly.

I'm not ready to say I got away with massively bending the rules of head work, but I think I bought myself a good bit of time to find another set of heads and get them properly redone.

Bought it! Well, more than that. I flew from El Paso to Orange County. Met the seller. Did the deed. Then rode 250 miles to Yuma AZ. 500 more miles tomorrow.

Put 176 miles on the new R1200GSA in temps of 35-38 degrees! Dam this has been a long miserable winter! I just had to get out and ride!

Yup. 2004. 24024 miles when I picked it up. Though this is my first BMW bike, it is not my first BMW boxer twin. Years ago I had a BMW 700 coupe. But parts were hard to find for it, so I sold it (sadly.)

If you're in San Clemente, you may know the bike--the seller was in Laguna Beach. He recently bought a 1200gs, so this was for sale.

All of them? Are you sure you properly found TDC?

Very nice low mileage esp for the year. Already decked out with the expensive stuff too!

Went for a tank-full ride today. Got to test out my new helmet, a Shoei Hornet DS. I'm pretty happy with the new lid...

Installed Touratech fuel bottle holders to my pannier. I purchased the double bottle rack and cut it in half for easier access to the pannier lock. It was cheaper than buying two single bottle racks, too.
