I'm using a BMW crate strap around the middle to hold it to the bike... the ROK straps are there just to make sure it does not shift around... It was definitely not going anywhere as long as I kept the rubber down...

Proving you don't have to go offroad to have an adventure! Haha. That's great.

Is there any place to get those? I've been wanting to do that as well.

Your catalytic converter has plugged up and is not allowing exhaust to flow through it.

Put your hand over the muffler outlet and rev the bike up. I am pretty certain you will feel a minimum amount of air coming out.

Either purchase an aftermarket header that removes the cat or remove the header pipes and bring it to a muffler shop and ask them to remove the guts from the cat.

Good luck!

2004 GS Adv with 81,000+ on it. Oil changed last week. Since then I noticed that the warning light comes on after riding a few miles. Shortly after that, I get excessive vibes through the pegs and handlebars. About then it really feels down on power, higher revs to maintain speed.

I've noticed the smell you get when a catalytic converter is done. Excessive heat on my ankles (felt through the Sidi Adventures, lower ankles, inboard. Not the heat from the heads).

It has been unseasonably warm (80's), it is a few miles of stop and go traffic.

Could the warning light be due to the sensor in the catalytic converter being screwed by the bad converter? Would that affect the power causing the vibes?

If I pull over and shut it down for just a minute or two, upon restart the light goes out and it runs perfect. After a mile or two it's back. I don't think the vibes are from the final, I can't feel them through the seat or the top box.

I'm going to change out the spark plugs (it's time) and I have to change the oil again (crush washer isn't doing its job, oil drip from drain bolt).

I have a weekend camping trip next weekend and want the bike to work. Long shot, but any ideas?

Thanks. Beemer Boneyard has a cat for $95, I guess I'm going to pick it up.

I thought that the cat was going based on the smell. I wasn't sure if that would have caused the other symptoms (vibrations and warning light). I'm going to get a sync done on the TB's as well.

Check with George first. He has a lot of used parts. I recently got a used clutch from him that was like new.

Not the BBY is a bad alternative, he is great too!

A misfire can cause the same symptoms. Low power + vibration and the resulting unburned fuel will cause the odor and excessive heat from the cat. Not discounting anything stated above, but you may want to make sure of what is happening before you start spending on parts.

Rode it!

Lots of fun to see people's faces when we're next to each other at the light, and they look over while their wipers are swinging at full clip!

I enjoy that as well, but think it's even funnier when they point and smile when I use my thumb squeegee to clear my visor...
