Boonah > Toonumbar > Rathdowney recce ride, MONDAY 29th October

Greetings,

Departing 8am sharp from Boonah BP (corner Walter and High) and heading out thru Cannon Ck, Maroon Dam, White Swamp, Condamine Gorge, Barlows Gate to Lower Acacia then around to Legume, Flagstone Rd to New Koreelah Rd then to Urbenville for fuel and lunch.

After lunch down to Old Bonalbo then Upper Duck Creek to Aterlee, Murray Scrub, Toonumbar Forest Rd and home. Might return via either Lions Tourist Road or maybe back up the Summerland Way and find our way across to the tick gate.

Will be having breakfast at Valley Fresh Fine Foods in Boonahs main street at 7am. They do awesome bacon and eggs.

Just started raining as I type so may make Condamine Gorge a little more interesting and cut the dust back. Will be 400 + km's and riding at a reasonable pace on a DR650 and Baric on his new 690.

Anyone interested to come for a tootle?

Cheers - Ron.

Do you realise Flagstone Road continuation to New Koreela runs across private property?
So do the tracks up to the nature reserve and forestry onto Tooloom Forest Rd

Toonumbar Forest Drive is open atm but Murrays Scrub remains closed to vehicles.
Cob 'O' Corn is open.

Upper Duck Creek has been closed for a while.
Try Peacock Creek as a viable alternative.
It is less tar seal than Upper Duck Creek if you approach Bonalbo via Joes Box or Hooten Rd.

Thanks Rucksta - no I didn't.

From Lower Acacia can we get around Vinegar Hill Road onto Mandle School Road and onto New Koreelah Road?

From Toonumbar Dam it looks like there is a track about 2km south that heads SW across to Peacock Rd. Is that doable?

From Upper Logan Road (near Bigriggan) can we get thru to the Mt Lindesay Hiway via Hardgrave Road?

Thanks, Ron.

Mandle School Rd.
Same ownership as Flagstone.
Flagstone in spite of a washed out section requiring riding in deep sand along the creek bed is a better option than the Brookvale crossing which is deep washed out steep & rutted.

Yes very doable I'd take your Commodore down it at speed.

Need to talk to Old Man Hardgraves.
Letterbox with the Friesian (cow) paint job off the My Lindsay Highway.
He's not known for saying yes.

Thanks, Ron.
New Koreelah Valley is a hard nut to crack.
Even Rob Turton needs a guide to negotiate the landowners and the maze of farm tracks.

Richard Van der Staat, one of the organisers of the Killarney trail ride, may have some suggestions and alternates but he may see an organised ride of 60 bikes as competition for their own local fundraing actiities.

A great breakfast at Cafe 17 in the main street of Boonah. By the time we got to Palen Creek it started to shower and continued to do that most of the day. Into Kyogle at 3.30 cold as a cucumber and running on petrol fumes.

Thanks Baric for a great day of exploring.

And thanks to all who contributed with their local road knowledge - you saved a whole heap of back tracking and time wasting.

Cheers, Ron.

Backtracking and time wasting are just warm ups for the real fun of being stuck on the side of a hill, in the rain, low on gas and wondering as dusk falls if the next gate really is locked.

Glad you enjoyed yourselves anyway
