Can KTM build a significantly lighter 700-800cc twin? Is there a market for it?

Um, hmm let me think about it, is it because you can go to a dealership and get one for 5500 new, and they've got dealerships everywhere.

Most people don't even know what a KTM is, let alone a husky. And most people are surprised to find out that BMW makes motorcycles...

Are you feeling a bit defensive of your motorcycle being compared to a KLR?

If KTM could only make their big single as smooth as the Terra version of the 650 Kymco/Rotax/Lorcin engine -- that would be a good long range engine for a lightweight Adventure bike. Slap it into a proper sporty frame & plastics, tune it for another 10hp, just ramblin'...

Or take a Terra for $3K less than a 690, throw proper suspension and an aluminum swingarm on it...

And you just spent the 3k savings and have an overweight bike with low budget parts. Have you looked at the small parts on one of these...screams China to me and I like Huskys.

Yikes- not very good protection on that radiator- add a pound to mine- no wind protection/deflection to speak of.... you know where this is going

Yeah...and it's 400lbs dry, not to mention that the sump and exhaust is like 2 inches below the axle line.....by the time you add some engine protection, a luggage system and a decent gas tank, you have an underpowered 1190.

The underlined is the reason that KTM can’t make what you all pine for. They don’t have the resources. Because they don't sell enough bikes or have enough dealers or enough brand recognition outside the fringes that they cater to.

And I don’t have a Husky or a KLR? I have the spindly sprung old version of the husky motor in my Dakar, you know the ones where the front wheels just magically fly off and throw you into a guardrail.

I wish KTM, or husky, or BWM would build something like a more refined 690 with good high quality parts and minimal wind coverage that could be jumped and hammered off-road but it would cost so much and so few would buy it that it would bankrupt them.

I'm 5'10" and ride 4 different KTM's made you should just learn to cope.
