All the Aussies are through, looks like Rod and Grabbo both had issues at some point today, and Dakar says Warren got stuck for a few minutes, but all are home and nobody has lost ground in the overall standings.
Good result I reckon!

Wink

I know initially lots of people were talking a top 10 finish for Grabbo, and a few people seem to be making excuses for him (mostly in bike shops where they have less information than the F5irehose) but if he keeps moving like this he's pulling a top 20 finish in his first attempt at the freakin' DAKAR!
Take a second to think of what an accomplishment that is. Top 20, first time out, in a race that DNFs pretty much every rookie ever.
If he blows up tomorrow he's still done more than 1 in a million riders.
If he holds it together for 2 more stages, he's got a finishers medal he first shot.

That's something to be incredibly proud of.

And let's not forget all the other Aussies. Good positioning, solid work, in at least one case sacrificing a much higher position for the good of the team.

We say it quite often but this is the year that Australia really came to Dakar...

Shame I'm a Canadian, really.

Ha! And I'm an expat living in Toronto! Seriously though, epic effort no matter what happens from here. Big too for Geoff Olholm, he's in the top 10 overall of the cars. That's nuts. That is seriously elite.

Do we know what happened to Grabbo after WP5? Was it nav error, crash, or mechanical?

Not sure, but Rod F suffered badly from altitude sickness today and backed it off, maybe Grabo had the same thing.

Media or Society

what is wrong?
since days the news (WA radio) are full of Lance Armstrong, he was cheating, he is a yank, why does he get so much attention?
I don't wanna hear all that sh..

Why does the success the Aussies have in the Dakar not get valued?
96fm is/was a Safari sponsor, but I didn't here any report the whole time the rally was running, not even the start or finish.

is it the media deciding what I have to listen to?
or are out there so many who wanna hear the news they broadcast.
is rally sport only for a small elite?

I was quietly wondering how Grabbo came to be classified as a rookie ...

It's his first time on the Dakar - pretty simple really.

You should be getting good fuel economy out of those HRC packing cartons for most of the move Troy,

The last bit could be a problem
