CRF450 X or R?
Hello everyone. I am looking for another bike to ride on, next to my F650GS. It s time to fly higher.
I need your opinions about these two: CRF450R or CRF450X. Their cons and pros...Actually, I want a lighter bike with more power, R is better but on the other side, kickstart is what many complain about and need some power for GPS and headlights for nite rides. Their HPs are a matter as well. R jhas more horses working inside engine. Cant go up to more than 2008. What year do you recommend as well? Are there many differences? Thx in advance for your precious comments. |

My neighbor bought an "R" for fast trail riding with friends on KTMs. Big mistake. Get the "X". HP is not an issue unless you are racing motorcross.

Get the X and one of these stators:

Get the X. It has more hit than my WR450, power was about the same but it felt more hard edged, mx bike like. The R is pure MX.

Great share. Well, actually not in my mood to refresh my X in the short term. Need to fix ABS issue on my F650GS.
Then, might come this one. Can you add more info ab this stator? Thx a million.

For trail riding unless you're riding WFO all the time you won't even be able to tell the HP difference. The R's makes its' power high in the RPM band. Plus with the lighter flywheel you'll be stalling it out more often in the slow stuff.
If you want lighter get a 2stroke KTM, otherwise the 450-x will be a fine trail bike. I've had MX bikes and they suck on the trails compared to a dedicated XC bike. |

My stator is actually a Baja Designs, have used Ricky's stators over the years on other bikes and no complaints on his stuff. Run Sol Tek HID's and a Lowrance Elite 5 gps for pre-running and racing. The cam, head pipe ect, makes the X a whole different animal, friends that have ridden it get off and just reply by saying wow. X is a 07 and have had "zero" problems and lots of ear to ear grin miles. Would be glad to send somes pics to you if you would like to see the set up. (can't post pics). Pre-running/ riding in Baja, The parts availability down there is a big plus.

I have a 450x for dual sport and a 250r woods race bike. Both are awesome. If I had to keep only one, Im keeping the X without hesitation.
