What are the cities in Bolivia you can find a good tire selection?

Hi everyone:

Front tire (from San Diego, CA) is finally showing some cupping wear although I do have a good amount of tread left. I'm thinking Bolivia will soon deal a death blow to my front tire (110/80R-19).

I'm in La Paz now, and from what I hear from folks; you buy your tires here or Cochabamba which has a bunch of motoshops and tire shops.

Considering that it's around 600-800km from La Paz to Trinidad (where I'll be throwing the bike on a banana boat through the jungle from Trinidad to Cochabamba) I'm thinking I should be all set till then.

Would love to hear your experiences... I did a few site searches and saw people riding through Cochabamba but didn't see much on tire purchasing.

I bought a front tire in LaPaz and rear tires in Sucre.

There are some moto shops near the market on the hill off the main drag.

The folks at Madness Adventure Tours (on the main drag downtown) can point you in the right direction if you can't figure it out.

How did you get from San Diego to Bolivia on one front tire?

Yup, Sucre, La Paz, or Cocha are the only places I remember there being much available. I bet you'd be able to find something in Potosi as well.

Since you are in La Paz and questioning a few hundred km more, why not just purchase there? (However, you will not be able to buy anything tomorrow as it's census day in Bolivia.) On Colombia (near Boqueron) there is a street filled with tire options. See these posts for more info:

I am currently in Cochabamba and can ask around for options, but it may have to wait until Thursday. Let me know if that would help...

The road to Trinidad can get pretty muddy. A buddy of mine burned up a clutch on his DR650 spinning his wheels to no end to get to Trinidad. I'd want plenty-o-tread if the road is soft right now. Depends on the year and when the rainy season arrives.

Central Moto is "Un mundo de llantas para tu Moto". Their relevant current stock includes the following:

There is a moto shop on the corner of Junin and Colombia - Moto Repuestos Cañoto (Junin No 0195 / tel 4588639 / cel 71414381) - that has a BMW G650X (or something like that) in the window. They quoted me a relatively expensive price for fork oil, but were nice and could probably help get parts in. (May not be the most helpful for tires, but maybe someone in the future will find this).

Another shop with better garage space (it's huge) is Moto Show (Jordan 387, close to Tumusla). Marcelo the owner was really nice and said that he or his brother could help get any parts in (they have new Honda XR650's, BMW F650s in stock, had a V-Strom on the lift, so it seems like they would be used to big bikes), travelers would be welcome to use their tools if needed, and they have access to a good mechanic. There is a market selling random moto parts near Aroma and 25 de Mayo. Good for tubes and such. Asking at a few stands only turned up a 90/90-19 off brand (Taiwainese?) tire for 250 Bs, as quoted.

Also, I was told that 6 de Agosto had tires, but I only saw auto tires when I took a spin down that street.

(FWIW, if you need any fluids, machine shop or welding work done, the corner of Aroma with Oquendo puts you in the right district. If you need just fluids, hardware or any automotive supplies, Tumusla south of Heroinas has it all.)
