Aprilia SXV 550 owners weigh in

If you own or have owned an Aprilia SXV 550, can you please share your experiences with the bike.

ridiculous fun, cart-track/tight turn focused, requires maintenance (oil changes every other ride type of thing). a bit nervous at high speeds, at least i thought so. model years and miles matter (tank re-seal, top-end rebuild). that just about covers it.

did i say how much fun it was?

There are 4 other SXV threads on this site. Don't reinvent the wheel AGAIN! Use Google search!!! There is lots of info on the SXV/RXV here. [Also, it is beyond race-bike tuning, break-downs are legendary, maintenance is a nightmare - especially for the first production year in the US. Only for the dedicated mechanic and race-experienced rider! AF-1 in Texas can get you what you need for parts.]

I havent owned one but I did own a RSV and AF1 is the place to call for X Y Z.
But I appreciate the thread bc I wouldn't mind owning another Ape. IMHO Aprilia is a fantastic ride.
Pictures wouldn't hurt either.

Sorry, didn't buy one after talking with my local dealer in Seattle. I studied the bike from a year before it was released through the first two years of production. I went to the dealer and talked with owners and mechanics.

Then, a few years later, I thought I was being a wimp. So I studied all of the posts on the web, including those here on this site, and went back to the mechanic and some "past" owners. All had the same stories. My conclusion: Great for racing. Not so great for anything else. I didn't feel so guilty after the second go around.

Do your own research. Go to the threads on this site and PM the owners. Decide for yourself.

I owned a 2007, brilliant but not for only bike because of the servicing, google the manual and you will see. Rawer and harder to ride than my R1.

Have cash for repairs. I wish I didnt sell it.
