help
New to dual sport/ adv riding , but not new to dropping bikes. Yesterday while taking advantage of beautiful weather went for probably the final ride of the season. While rounding a curve hit ice & went down- immediately turned off ignition switch & picked up bike '07 990 ADV. Would not restart! Bike fell on left side & after getting home began trouble shooting. Took off left tank hoping it was the quick disconnect on fuel line - not so, should the next step be to deal w/ the fuel pump? I'm not hearing any noise from the pump when I turn on ignition- should I? Bought bike w/ 40k miles from a buddy who is gonna help me w/ wrenching , but He is outta touch ( touring in Copper Canyon).Any thoughts?

Could be a number of things. Easy thing first is to determine if the kickstand kill switch is broken. If the dash lights up when you turn on the key, then that's not it. Kill switch would also keep the dash lights off.

when mine takes a nap, it cranks but doesn't start up on the first try because the line probably loses pressure. So i switch the ignition a few times to pressurize the line and then it starts immediately. But then all this time my fuel pump is working and i can hear it.
You said you dont hear the fuel pump when turning ignition on, but does everything (instrument cluster, lights etc) work on the bike ? defn. worth checking the side stand switch and if the neutral indicator is working (when its in neutral). Try starting it with the clutch pulled in (assuming your clutch switch is good)

I'd check the tip over switch also, maybe it got damaged in the fall?

Might be the fuel pump. Mine went out without notice. It was the Facet and I just pulled over in Colorado to take some pictures fired it back up and it started coughing about 20 yards on the road and .......

I don't believe in coincidence and I've been trouble shooting mechanical issues for many years. IMO it would be a coincidence if your fuel pump failed because you dumped it. Not impossible, just improbable (I think).
I haven't looked at a wiring diagram for a while, but if there is an easy way to run jumper wires from your battery to your fuel pump you could test your fuel pump. If you need help with this let me know and I will research it further. Luck. PS where are you located? (just curious)
