My Weekend Daytrip

I don't get away from the house often enough I guess. It wasn't a big trip, approximately 230 mile round trip. But I did it on my old Honda C102 with the pit-bike engine.

Not sure if this belonged in Day Trips subforum, but since I'm a bit of a fixture here in Battle Scooters, I posted it here.

I rode Saturday morning to a old friend's house, someone I haven't seen in years. The route was up the coast, North from our place in North Bend, OR to Florence, then east on 128 to Mapleton, and then onto hiway 36 to Triangle Lake and his place near Blachly. I added an additional run to Monroe and back. It was possibly the nicest mid April day I've experienced in a while. Temperatures up in the low 70's for most of the day.

pictures..

Railroad bridge at Cushman east of Florence. It's a nice name for a town on a scooter trip, don't you think?

The old orchards and trees on the way up were all just busting out with blossoms..

Triangle Lake

My arrival..

My friend trying out the Honda.

Going up a gravel road to a summit with nice views

my departure..

I rode the rest of the way home in the gathering dusk till it got fully dark about half way. Funny temperature swings with altitude, it would be warmer on the hills and tops of big climbs. All in all a great day and a lot of fun visiting with an old friend.

Every ride that ends up with a safe rider and great pics is a winner in my book.

Thanks for letting us ride along on a great day in a beautiful place!

That is beautiful scenery. I want to explore the PNW when I finally retire out of here and can hit the road in the RV (with the Vespa attached of course!).

Thanks for sharing your ride.

Great pictures.

I really miss living in the PNW. Maybe someday I will get back out there....

Thanks for sharing!

Well the idea is to keep this thread as a chronicle of this season's short trips, so there will be additions.

Oregon is extraordinary for its history and variety of terrain when the sun is out. The heat in Bend three summers ago made Florida seem positively arctic. Otherwise it makes me grumpy with the gray skies and no self service gas. So more pictures would be nice, especially in the Honda, to be reminded of the good bits without having to be there.

Yes, you wouldn't like today, it's gray and drizzly, but it's the drizzle that makes this area so pretty. I don't mind it.

Great scenery around there. It's one of the few parts of the country I haven't ridden yet. Looking forward to more of your pics.

Nice ride report and photos. Whats your cruising speed? Riding up hwy 101 and 126 must be exciting in all that fast traffic. Where was that view from the top of the hill? It reminded me of Mary's Peak. I like the rain here too, it keeps the moss green behind me ears. Looking forward to more rides and photos.

Hey Yama,

I know I do not step out side of my thread very often. But I do really appreciate the pics of Oregon. I have a lot of memories tied up in that State growing up... and Oregon will always be a hard place for me to confront. Always beautiful, just like in your photos. I hope all is going well for you.
