Cracked Triple

Found this today on my 01 640 SM. KTM wants $120 or so for a replacement but I see a lot of aftermarket "upgrades" available. If I am gonna switch it out does it make sense to explore other options? Bar position is comfortable and I can not imagine needing any sort of performance upgrade but...open my eyes for me. Do some of the high end aftermarket clamps affect feel or are they just less likely to do what this one did?

I had one crack like that,it was from over tightening it,they dont really crack just from riding it around usually.

find a good local welding shop,
,if you brought that in to my shop I'd charge you $40,,,you should be able to find someone to match that quote,,if they want much more than that, move on to the next shop.

They don't even crack like that when you drive into the side of a sheep at 50mph in my experience

Be aware that aftermarket triples probably won't have the rubber mounted bar clamps or instrument mounting points that the stocker has.

Cheers
Clint

I wouldn't weld it, it is cast aluminum so it might be risky. You check the part number and typically the last 4 numbers are the offset of your triples. It should be 18, 20, or 22 usually, most likely 18 or 20. Then buy the corresponding replacement. Any one will due but I prefer the factory KTM billet clamps in the same offset personally.

KTM talk in the classifieds section has lots of triples, or get aftermarket. lots of dealers are also having spring sales, our local one is having a 25% of in a couple days.

For example, this is a KTM 22mm offset clamp:
