Just picked up my 13 XC. Got the top case as promo. Can someone please explain the sliding carrier and what's the point of the sliding?

The idea is that the wind doesn't affect the bike as much as with a solidly mounted case. It's supposed to flap like a flag in the wind. I've always expected something like; "tests by experts have shown" in their brochures. Dunno if it works as I've never ridden anything with that set up.

Thanks for the input. I guess theoretically it makes sense. Helps shift unsprung weight while cornering.

Unsprung weight is everything below the springs; i.e., the lower forks, roughly half of the weight of the swingarm, the wheels and tires, etc. Everything above the springs, like you on the seat, or luggage on the bike, is sprung (suspended) weight.
