Re Crutchlow: in a yarn just posted here on crash.net Poncharal says it was Crutchlow's idea to restrict his Tech 3 contract to a single year. Said if it turned out C had to make way for Espargaro, that would be because he had declined the proffered two-year deal.

Also comments late in that piece comparing Crutchlow's bike with the factory efforts.

"Our engine specs are almost identical to the factory engines and we are now into the third development phase of the chassis since the first pre-season test at Sepang ..." More ...
CC stated in today's press conference that he only took a one year deal with Tech3 because Tech3 did not have an engine contract beyond 2013 and he didn't like the idea of riding Moto2 for Herve in 2014. Interesting how these things get left out.

I can't see where it would be in Tech 3's interest to get rid of Cal. As well as he is riding, I would think that they would be trying to keep him.

I think with riders slowly figuring out there are really only four real factory rides out there with the chance at the brass ring, the private teams are still the second tier. Ducati has fallen to just above the CRT in terms of money out of pocket to ride.
In terms of championship chasing they are no better than CRT.
That leaves Cal only Bradl's seat to look out for. I'm not sure that is as good a seat as he has currently. Honda are not real likely to be shopping around for outspoken talent.
Or, maybe 2014 brings T3 motors and chassis from Yamaha. Or Rossi retires and goes off to drive V8 supercars to piss off Casey
I'm thinking the silly season is going to be boring, other than Pol finding a seat. Mr Smith may be riding a CRT next year. I mean Dovi farted around at T4 and look what he got. The big red turnip truck.

Surely Cal himself disproves this thesis?

So Cal thought that for some reason Yamaha would NOT give Tech3 engines? Riiight.

The picture that emerges is of Cal trying to make his way through management with the same strategies he uses on the track. Not working out nearly so well.

I suspect it's more about saving money than anything else.
Crippled bikes with riders that pay to ride is Ezpeleta's vision.

One of Ezpeleta's goals with discouraging leased bikes is ending the trend of riders doing it for no salary.

I sometimes wonder what it is about Dorna/Ezpeleta that brings out the "theories" -- is it because his name doesn't sound murrican?
