Proof that competition is tight this year! Kind of a throwback to the old days of GP racing rivalry before everyone became "buddies" in recent times!

No kidding. I remember Doohan forcing Honda to bring the screamer motor out of retirement so that he'd have a different setup than his teammate (Criville?).

Rossi #51 Forbes list

I saw this morning that Vale is #51 on Forbes Highest Paid Athlete List:
$12mm salary
$10mm Endorsements

That's down from were he was a couple years ago at $30mm
http://www.forbes.com/athletes/list/

Highest in motorsports is Alonso at #19 and $30mm total
Dale Jr in the thirties and $26mm

No wonder Alonso's attitude has been pretty good since he got to Ferrari.

Anyone else having trouble with Dorna double billing for the video package?
I have sent a couple emails about it but no response for a week. Do they ever answer the emails? I'm close to stopping payment with the CC company but don't want to lose the video access - OTOH I don't want to be billed twice.

So, how does it work?
How is NASCAR worth money? How do you convince a guy with money to dump it into a rolling billboard that does nothing more than circulate a small circle in front of television cameras?
What convinces a company to spend money to have a sticker stretched across the hood of a car?
Is that all it takes? A rolling billboard?
Fox pays $2.4B, TNT and ESPN pay $2.7B
Companies quote 3 and 4 to 1 returns on investment for sponsorship dollars.
A friend told me about how Home Depot had numbers to support sales relative to car sponsorships for powertool makers. such as DeWalt and Makita.

70 million viewers?
So, is this due to lettering size? Is it the circle?

Wow,

Yes. This is business, and the goal of advertising your business is to get your company's name in the biggest letters possible, and in front of as many people as possible.

I think the key to the whole Nascar thing is that it's so fucking boring people actually pay attention to the sponsorship ads on the cars.

I've sent several emails over the last few years asking about things relating to videos not playing, broken links, etc... Always a prompt reply. Not surprising if someone was to have problems getting a straight answer it would be from financial dept.

Look at the fan base also and feel free to generalize or stereotype. Those types of people are an advertiser's dream.
