Hmm...going to Ducati for the money, I understand. But turning down the same amount of money plus the chance to actually win?

Yamaha didn't match the $$$. Not even by half.

An extra $3M over 2 years is nothing to sneeze at.

This was the part I could never understand - the performance items linked to that would have to be so onerous that the whole thing could in no way be a "guarantee". So, I could see it as a bargaining chip to be traded away at the last, but as a lynchpin its inartful.

I'm betting there is at least a €million between what Tech 3 and Ducati offered, probably more. Through that prism, the decision got a lot easier for a 27 yr old, I reckon.

On a Tech 3 Yamaha, over Marquez, Pedrosa, Lorenzo, and Rossi? Please.

I can only hope that those of you criticising Cal for his decision are considering it through a prism much different from the one you view your own professional decisions.

After 2007, there have been only two riders, who have not effectively ended their careers in MotoGP, when they signed to ride the Duc. And of these two, only one has been able to really ride the thing, and even that was some time ago.

Even if the money is there, it does not seem like a smart career move. He could´ve done well on the Tech3, in fact he is right now just 1 point behind Rossi.

Yamaha first pissed Rossi off, by paying more to JLO, then they had that ugly, weird break up with Spies. And now Tech 3 is putting Smith and Pol in front of Cal. I'd be pissed off too if i was in Cal's shoes. At least he gets paid well and if by a miracle the Duc will be fast again, he has a chance to maybe win.

The odds aren't in his favor, sure, but with 4 podiums so far this year (only 2 last year with no Marquez and effectively no Rossi), a win isn't completely out of the realm of possibilities.

I'd believe that happening before a podium on a Ducati. And that's on the bold assumption that he'd be able to get around Dovi.

Very interesting articl with Jeremy Burgess here:
http://www.cycleworld.com/2013/07/30...utm_source=rss

especially about the days of the special tires designed for the rider and the bike, I've read other places that if the Ducati could get the right type of tire it would be competitive but the spec tire era is the problem. And it is a good point that if everyone has to run the same tires then all the bikes have to be built around that tire to be competitive then this also reduces the diversity of the machines....

At 27 this could be his last chance for a factory ride and to get a good paycheck. Why not take a gamble versus waiting to see what Yamaha will do with Rossi's seat. You have to think Ducati will do something with Audi in the driver seat.

Now the question is do we get Colin and Nicky on the same..

They offered him a contract, what more to you want? Is Pol now guaranteed a factory seat in 2015? NFW

Oh and why in 2015 is there a guaranteed opening, Rossi is a cash cow and if the continue to do well as they are now why change it up.

I think Cal will surely fight for wins...in the Ducati subclass.
