If Ducati's issue is not the basic 90-deg layout - and Honda's success suggests it can't be - they might yet have a chance.
Kenny sent Willing with KRJR when he went to Suzuki. I believe he was back with Team Roberts after Suzuki.

They did that last year, publicly.

Yeah, but this year they did it quietly.

You've lost me. Last year they publicly abandoned in the engine-as-frame in favor of a traditional aluminum beam frame. They can't do it again, publicly or quietly.

Yeah sorry guys, I left that a bit cryptic.

Sure, they built an aluminium full-frame last year and bolted their engines into it. But the concept remained. I think a recent poster pointed out that their engines are still built to carry frame stresses. And the present frame was introduced as an experiment to see if it helped. Arguably, it hasn't helped much.

Preziosi also acknowledged that it was hard to make the chassis changes you wanted when the engine was the chassis and you had only half a dozen engines for the season.

But Ducati's recent history (i.e. since the Pantah 500) has been built on using the engine as a fully or almost fully stressed frame member. That includes all the racing Superbikes and all but the last couple of MotoGP bikes.

So, IMO they haven't ditched the concept until they have designed and built an engine doesn't have that task in the design brief.

It could prove interesting. He helped design a frame for the old Honda V5 motor which worked pretty well.

Dude is a legend, for sure.

Neil Hodgson just said, live, on air, that he has heard Aprilia will be pulling out of WSBK.

This would support the return of Aprilia to Moto GP as a Factory Team.

They are also rumored to be working on a version of their current motor with an 81 mm bore (Moto GP specific limit).

Interesting developments, if true.

Gotcha. I have in mind a great hulking set of cases designed to manage all the chassis loadings, surrounded by an overly large pair of aluminum beams, while Honda's 90-vee is designed to "merely" contain 260-plus hp while hanging in the optimal position from a svelte set of frame members.

Comment here from Wayne Gardner speculating on the possibility of a comeback from Stoner.

As many may know, Gardner went into Aussie sedan racing for a while, essentially the same competiton as Stoner, after he retired from GP bike racing.

A quote:

"I didn't expect he'd want to get back on the bike again, (but) I think he did the V8s as a replacement for a MotoGP bike. I can say, and I'm well experienced in that area, it will never replace the excitement."

With BMW and Aprilia out of WSBK it will be a very different series for sure.

I haven't heard anything at all about BMW being seriously interested in a GP effort. Aprilia is looking for a back door way in but seems reluctant to fully commit. It would be great news if they both put a big effort into GP.

BTW - the announcer on the SWBK feed just said he has heard from "sources" that Nicky is headed to WSBK next year.

Watching the WSBK race on TV, Jonathan Green just said Nicky Hayden is rumored to be coming to WSBK, replacing Jonathan Rea at Honda, with Rea taking a seat somewhere in MotoGP. what?

Hadn't heard that one before today. Anybody know if this tale has any real legs under it?

Or is this just another TV guy talking through his ass?
