Vin numbers

Can you determine through the VIN number if the bike was brought in from Germany? If so, how?

What do you mean? I think all the airheads were brought in from Germany.

The story is that it was purchased in Germany and then brought in, so I guess it would be a European model, How do know if it is a european model?

What year and model are we talking about? Go look it up here:

http://bmbikes.co.uk/enginechassis.htm

Certain number ranges were meant for the US market. Bikes outside those ranges were meant for "everywhere else."

Do you have the bike? Is this an issue with not knowing where to find the numbers on the frame or engine block? Is the speedo in km's or mph?

If it's a '77 R75, then that would be an R75/7, correct? Not too many of them made, as they went right to the R80 in the /7 models.

Here's another link for you to use, Duane Ausherman's site ---> http://w6rec.com/duane/bmw/VIN/index.htm
