Pyndon's KTM 950 / 990 Adventure K&N Pre-Filter Kit Now Available....

Now available and ready to ship

As seen on the factory 950 Rally bikes....

Folks,

It's finally here, after many requests over the past year, my production pre-filter kit is now available (worldwide). This is a quality piece of kit, no expense spared and comes complete with 10 page colour installation / maintenance guide.

Fits under bodywork / glove compartment....

After riding thousands of off-road miles in all sorts of conditions and never really worried about the air filter clogged or not, I just kept throwing those pricey stock paper filters in and riding. I tried a number different pre-filter configurations to help improve filtration, and provide me with a cleanable filter element but I was never satisfied as there always seemed to be compromise. So, I went to drawing board and began to design something from scratch something that offered all of the following:

1) A primary source of filtration that is good enough to prevent me having to replace the stock filter every service (cost saving)
2) Be big enough surface area to flow well even when it is dirty (foam did not offer this).
3) Have the option of running filter skins and them being easily interchangeable on rides.
4) Be able to remove and replace / change the filter element easily, without dismantling half the bike.*
5) Fit in an original space on the bike, or at least within the bikes silhouette.
6) Maintains the submersible depth of the bike (snorkel height)
7) Must be a cleanable element for use over and over again.
8) Must work with stock jetting as people don't want to be messing around with Carb settings - install and go!

The solution had to be something solid and something that really performed well and not just do half a job. Granted it was not going to be cheap but it would pay off in the long run.

After spending hours making dummy filters, trying them in various space envelopes, adjusting their shape, size and then trying them out on the trail. Eventually, I came up with what I considered to be the optimal solution / design. I turned to K&N to have the elements manufactured, it's very different to normal K&N's in that the element weave is very deep, giving the surface area of a filter twice its size, perfect for dusty, hard core conditions.

I initially made the filter kit for my bike and posted it in this thread (link) specific post (link)

OPTIONAL Charger cover shown below...

K&N Pre-Filter after 3200 miles of desert riding without charger cover...

The kit requires some modifications to the bike and you loose the majority of the glove compartment to make space for the filter but the benefits far outweigh the losses in my opinion.

The kit comes with a very thorough 10 page installation / maintenance manual (written by myself) with detailed descriptions and pictures for the most inexperienced to attempt the install without worries. Plus, I'm always on-line if you need any questions answering.

PRICES:

PLEASE NOTE, THESE ARE NOW AVAILABLE THROUGH WWW.ADVENTURE-SPEC.COM. ALL ORDERS SHOULD BE PLACED THROUGH THEM. A BIG THANK YOU TO THE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE BOUGHT A KIT FROM ME BUT ADVENTURE SPEC HAVE NOW ADDED THIS PRODUCT TO THEIR RANGE AND WILL BE THE SOLE DISTRIBUTOR.

Thanks and regards,

Lyndon

Greetings,
Will it fit the SE, and if so, what mods are required, if any?

Doubt it, I think the tank will be in the way but cannot be 100% sure.

I won't fit on the SE. Compared it when Country Doc's 950 SE was here at my place, and the tank simply does not allow any space. The pre-filter really requires the space provided by the glove-box.

I use an earlier prototype version of this system on the FlannyMobile 950 Advemnture and can attest that it's the bomb.

No air-flow compromizes, and clean primary filters mile after mile, easy changes/cleaning is a snap.

Good on 'ya for finally getting it out on the market Pyn!

Is that "it won't fit the SE" Flanny?

Thanks also for doing the State Side Testing on this piece of kit, always good to have some feedback from someone who has used it in anger (other than the salesman!)

Ammendments...

Sorry folks, I miscalculated the charger cover price (finger trouble with mental calculator ). Should have been 17 each and not 12. I will stand by this for everyone that has already paid 12 but from now on they are 17.

I also added additional shipping info after sending the first batch out today.

Yes, but I think it is necessary to relocate the sensor in-front of the engine breather on top of the air box.

If somebody can post a picture of the top of the 990 airbox with the glove compartment lid, surround and base removed I can confirm.

You could always try and use a currency converter or something, Google works great, type in 'XXX GBP into USD' and hit the enter button.

The words pre-filter in the title pretty much mean just that. It is a 'pre' filter, meaning that it is a filtration device previous to the main filter, hence why comments about preventing the main filter becoming clogged. It is almost exactly the same set up that the factory KTM 950's ran.

Hope this helps, let me know if you need any further info.
