Joe, thanks for posting on here and sharing your adventure with us! Is there any specific reason you use panniers instead of soft bags?

Looking forward to this one, thanks for sharing with us on ADVrider, it looks like it is going to be fun and by the look of your pictures with the 990, I am looking forward to see how the 1190 will fare in the same type of environment.

For the long distance trips I’m always using panniers.
The luggage is more protected then in soft bags. You can lock them on the bike and also in your room. If you are camping, you can use them as a seat. Until you have no accident they are waterproof. Regards Joe |

Hello Joe,
when you when you arrive in Ethiopia, and there are problems, then tell them you come from the GDR. The people will think...think...think: GDR...those are the with solidarity hangover; of which we have the copper pot ! And everything will be fine...

Adding US DVD Format anytime soon?
Hi Joe,
I've been following you via your website for some time now and would love to sit in on one of your presentations, but alas I live in the US and am in Germany only occasionally. I figured watching your DVD's would be an option, but upon closer examination I found them to be PALS format, which works fine for your neighborhood, but not too well over here in the US of A. Do you have any plans on expanding your offerings anytime soon? I know I'd be buying everything you've put out so far, and I suspect a number of other inmates might follow suit as well. Thanx in advance, Marc LaDue |

I saw your note and was curious if you were using "Caribou Cases" or if you had made our own Pelican luggage with different luggage mounts and racks. gbx2001 screwed with this post 12-02-2012 at 06:11 PM |

I used my own mounts that was designed to be used with soft luggage but works very well with the Pelican Cases.

I used the front hub of the 1190 and changed the rim to a smaller.
On the rear wheel I use the 990 hub but also a smaller rim. |

First the good news from Addis. Thanks to the girls from MACCFA it only takes 3 hours to bring the KTM through customs.
![]() And now the bad news. Flavio, the fastest Ethiopian on 2 wheels can unfortunately not travel as planned, the first stage with me. On the Ring Road, a car crashed into him. This idiot drove across the multi-lane main road and Flavio has no chance to avoid the accident. Several broken ribs and problem with the shoulder are the results. He can’t ride a motorcycle within the next weeks. But I’m glad that not more happend to him. |
