Great ride report, Larry! Jeff here - Greg and I saw you at Alvord. You were telling us about that nasty hillclimb when we saw you...it looks ugly!! I wish we'd had more time to check that area out...I really enjoy riding that type of wide open country. Looks like you had a blast!! Next time you're in Moab you should check out the White Rim trail/road.....nothing technical but there's around 100 miles of outstanding views - definately one I'll do again!. Maybe we'll run into each other sometime - take care - Jeff

HEY! You found my report. That's excellent. I was so excited to meet you guys, and I very much enjoyed our ride up into the Steens "foothills".

I recall us discussing that your group was planning on riding it. I'd like to do it sometime, hopefully my next Moab trip.
Oh, and we were talking about Widowmaker. Here's that pic I told you about from my trip there Oct 2011

A few more just 'cause Moab is so awesome

That'd be great. For as large as the world is, its funny how small it can be sometimes.

I've hunted all over that area for many years, the biggest reason NOT to camp on top of Beatys is Lightning.
That Butte takes hits year round. I've camped at the base several times and its crazy how it gets strikes year round.
Especially when the temperature changes suddenly. Plus I've almost got blown out of there with the wind.
13 hours of 50+ mph wind makes napping tough...

Great area, seen most of it from my Jeep.

Cheers
Dave
