xt225 2500 miles to Idaho and back, bigger tank, taller gearing and GO.
tw200 Boise to Yellowstone and back, 1750 miles, 10 days camping, lots of dirt. Quad rack zip tied on, extra ct90 gas tank on. Bike $1100.00. Just ride.

350 miles to DV.
Wow, don't want to be THAT guy who doesn't have big tank, extra gas, tools, water, new tires, gps, charger on bike, different gearing, air compressor, duct tape, wire, right gear and thinking about what ride to sign up for? I don't like rocks or sand maybe I shouldn't go. Not a true noob as raced mx in early 70s but am 60 now and very worn out. Can I keep up? Need to check weather, do I need a better bag, tent, warmer undies? Do I really need to wear old MX boots as usually wear Red Wings or tennies? Do I need to bring fire wood? Maybe two pieces as riding in on 1995 dr350. Do I need to bring a case of beer in case people think my jokes suck?
Cut up and welded TCI Sequoia rack so can take off sides. Have 40 inch Quad rack on top of that. Side and top racks have plates welded and drilled for Rotopax 2 gal gas, tools and water. Giant Loop waterproof tank bag, Wolfman waterproof tank panniers, Ortlieb waterproof side panniers, Ginormus Northface waterproof gear bag, Parabellum dr 650 shield, (adapted), for ride
in and back, GPS and charger, new Acerbis hand guards, (sponsored), 2 front sprockets, new HD tubes and rear 606, new jacket, gloves and goggles.
2 tires off my dr650 for m1jeep on top of big red bag will top it off.
Ride to Forest Service to buy annual Park pass and get stickers for bikes. AAA for map.
Where am I going, and for how long, RTW, 2 years?????
I'm sure I will still have to borrow something from someone, or you from me.
I now realize why people take there bike in the back of something big!
Oh well, really looking forward to ride and meeting folks.
Now, I only have to figure what size I want the Klim gear in?

yeah, lots of prep work...

and if you're not stressed out, then you probably have a shop or outfitter company doing the work for you.

look at the bright side...now the bike and gear are getting the attention that should be good for the next big event.

finally solved my fuel issue....

this event makes us do things that we will normally put off. at the same time, it promotes our sport and brings revenue to the motorcycle/outdoor related industries.

i found some bad valves, cam and buckets when digging in for my bigbore kit a few weeks ago. Im hoping to get the head back from service this week so i can get some miles on it and the bugs worked out before DV.

Just did another 552 miles of DV this past weekend with my good friend from Michigan.

In summary, conditions are great!

Steele Pass loop is on average about the same as last year. Saline Valley Road through South Pass is still a bit rocky, smoother in some spots, the same in most, and only a little worse in a few, compared to last year. The deep sand as you head west on the valley floor after the decent down is actually easier then last year, the sand seems to be shallower. Steele Pass itself is still loose and full of baby heads like last year. The steps as you drop down to Eureka Dunes are a little easier, only because some have been filled in with gravel and smaller stones to make it easier for the 4x4's.

Cerro Gordo is excellent. Went up Swansee up to the cabin, and it is very rocky and rough. The only snow on the trail is a small patch just west of the trams, and it is very easy to ride around. I would bet it would be gone by the rally. We did not go up the White Mountain Road variation.

I have a few more teaser photos I will post soon...the views from the Salt Tram loop had me flipping out!

better deal with it now than at the event. last year, lior (liorsmotoride.com helped someone with a dead 990 and after several hours still won't run....turned out to be a hole on the valve...

For those with HAM radios... there will be a group of 4x4s from the ExpeditionPortal board in the DV area the same weekend. They are aware of 200+ motos in the area... they will also have HAMs

From the ExPo board:

We will be on 147.550 and I will dual watch on 146.520. Will have gas, water, food, and tools. I've got SPOT as well for emergencies.

Have any frequencies been decided on for the AdvRider group?
