I loaded my 990 to Rich's trailer tonight. He is heading to DV Wednesday morning. I am hoping to be there on Friday night and ride only 1 day.
I asked Rich to give it to the highest bidder to ride if I can't make it...

Worth starting a Noob Rally Ham thread?

Would it make sense to start a new thread for Noob Rally Ham's to post up their call signs and maybe their tent sites to facilitate monitoring rides, getting together to tell stories of incredible DX feats over beer, etc? Since you can't search on a short word like 'ham' it is painful to try to pick through 190 pages of this thread to find the hams that have posted already, and I'll wager there are a few that haven't spoken up yet. I'm not sure whether it is appropriate to create a thread for this under the annual rallies or elsewhere???

I'll be riding with a handheld (UV-5ra+ w/ 14" antenna) and throat mike that I'm looking forward to trying out for the first time. I've got the previously posted repeater and simplex frequencies programmed into my handheld already.

NOTE: Thursday dinner

Will now start serving at 630ish. Those that are riding late, we should still be serving at 8PM. Any later than that and you had better bribe the chef.

Large bills are prefferable!

bring along the brand new one

i would bring along the brand new one. That way he is covered, since the other part will take a few days to get there. I will call touratech and see if there is a restock fee on the lever. Doubt it - unless i install the bugger on the bike - lol. That keeps me from canabilizing my own T800XC for the sake of getting him back up and running.

That would be great - thank you for your help Dirt Donkey. Sorry for the delay in response I just finally got Internet going - it's on and off out here. I have bent the old lever back but it is sticking out too much and is 1" too high. Doing Goler and Mengal Pass tomorrow - this place is absolutely spectacular! Can't wait to meet all of you.
Again thank you for your help as well McKay I will pay you cash if that's ok?

not sure of the logistics? but do you want me to still order the foldable shift lever from touratech, they are now making it for the Tiger 800? Mckay said he would bring his new shift lever...
So i think you should go with that - I will cancel the order with Touratech. PM me if you still need it.
(it would ship to my house in California City which is 120 miles to the south - probably nowhere near PSR.)

***packed like a donkey and ready to go on Wednesday ***

PS - order was cancelled. It was a three day delivery, so best case scenario was Friday. UPS only delivers ground packages monday-Friday. i didn't want to take a chance and start rerouting the package on Monday. FYI - touratech will deliver to a campsite, if no such other adress is available. so they could deliver to Panamint Springs Resort campsite #__.

Got the pickup truck but am not packed. Sitting her fixing some stupid work computer issues instead of packing, guess I'll need to cut out of work early tomororw to head home, pack, do a few chores, then hit the road after traffic dies down.

If any urgent needs for items come up shout out.

Good price but I'm riding in from San Diego.

Tire question guys. I'm riding in on a GS 1200 and am contemplating bring my TKC80's and swapping tires once I get there. Currently the bike has Pilot Roads and I thought I could save the TKC 80's tire life (318 miles one way) by swapping them when I get there. Problem is, I've never swapped tires on this bike. I have done it on my XR650L and have all the tools (3 tire irons, bead buddy).

This dude makes it look easy.

i am sure there will be people who can help you. you will need high volume high pressure air compressor to seat the bead. others tried a ratcheting strap. jimmy lewis will be doing a tire change demo
