my r100gs grab rail has broken
the welding on the grab rail of my r100gs has snapped on the left side by the seat lock. so got to take it to collage and get it welding back up. i wonder what the next thing will be to brake on the bike.

I am surprised by this and wonder if it has not been damaged in an accident in the past, my GS, 160,000 miles and counting has done several overland trips heavily loaded on some pretty rough roads and the whole subframe is fine. I know of a few broken monolver G/S subframes but have never heard of it on a GS.

That's an odd thing to break in an odd spot. There must be more to the story.

with all four bolts (aka socket head cap screws)?
thinking if the grab rail was attached in only two places, there would be enough flexing to eventually fail... though not on the rail itself but at the plate it's welded to. just my first guess.

Quote:
its held on with 4 allen bolts on to the rack. the welding that holds the rail on to the metal plate that the seat lock is bolted to failed
