Did you get a tourist card? if not, I would go to Nogales and reenter without going through US customs and get all paperwork done.
If you only for a week or so in Mexico and then return to the USA , you can take a chance and ride through the Mexico border without stopping and process your entry back in the USA, but if asked for the Temporarily import papers, what they never did in 30 years with me, they only check this @ the 25 mile zone, you will be in trouble and it opens the door for fines!

Did you pass the 25 miles zone and got inspected by Mexican customs?, they usually pull every one on the side especially US plates!

Depends where you are going and how far? If you stay north of Guaymas, Sonora is a FREE NO HASSLE zone, but if you go further you need to get a tourist visa (Hermosillo Airport?) and then can purchase your vehicle permit just south of Guaymas. Remember its the weekend, and Holidays.

I would make sure you get your tourist visa, you will need it to get your vehicle permit. I did mean Sonora is a FREE NO HASSLE Zone for vehicles, everyone needs a tourist visa. Going to Mazatlan is a easy ride, mostly 4 lane and tolls (still should be half off for moto's) seems like you want to just blast down, but it will be best to take a little time and make sure you get paperwork done. Odds are you won't get stopped, but if shit hits the fan, you will be considered an illegal. Mexican moto insurance?

I rode back to the border to get the tourist card. they told me to get registered at the checkpoint just past caborca. it was easy, there's a banjercito right at the checkpoint.

thanks for the replies
