Apuseni mountains/ Romania, 2012
This is the continuation of the Transalpina tour, which was the starting point for the “Tenerist” convention in the Apuseni Mountains. I take this opportunity to thank the owners of Yamaha Tenere motorcycles for having invited me to participate too.
After a “warm-up day” on the Transalpina came two days through the Apuseni Mountains. On the first day we completed the Cluj – Belis - Doda Pilii –Rachitele – Huedin - Cluj route.
The first stop, at Belis, where we ate. It poured for an hour
Another stop, at Doda Pilii.
"Bride’s Veil" Waterfall, Rachitele
On day two the first thing we visited was the fortress at Rimetea, Alba County, also known as Trascaului fortress.
We rode our bikes almost all the way up to the fortress.
View from the fortress.
Piatra Secuiului (Szekler’s Rock) can be seen in the distance.
It is said that Rimetea is the place where the sun rises twice, and that’s because Szekler’s Rock, which overshadows Rimetea, is so close and so high, that even after the sun has risen in the morning, Rimetea is still in its shadow, although it is daylight outside. Then, after it’s had time to rise still further in the sky, the sun peeks from behind Szekler’s Rock, practically rising a second time, to light Rimetea village as well.
In this picture you can see the three of us who did not have the courage to ride their bikes up to the fortress, because the incline was very steep. To be honest, I was one of them
Speaking of how steep the incline was: it took 5 of us to maneuver a bike in order to turn it around so it could descend from the fortress…
