Yamaha SR500. One of the last carb and kick start only middle sized road bikes. Been running for a few years with a dead battery now.

My 2003 KLX300r that I bought new in Dec 2002. I keep telling myself that I am going to sell it and get something new like a WR250r but I never seem to be able to pull the "for sale" trigger. I have told myself that when the engine decides that it needs a major overhaul I will part with it. The problem with that is that the fugger has over 43k miles and still runs great plus I have already been pricing rebuild parts. They will probably bury me with the damn thing!!

Like the gents above, it took my first ride to decide that this bike will never, ever be for sale. No matter how bad it kicks my ass sometimes.

My Ducati M900 Monster -- I bought it new when they first came out in 1993, and have been riding it daily for 19 years and over 200K miles so far.

My 1960 Heinkel scooter -- it's just too cool, and I have had a lot of great times and stories on it.

Yeah she's ugly and not worth much, not the fastest or best handling, but I love this bike. Will always keep it, no matter how many times I need to duct tape it back together.

I have my 1972 R60/5 that I bought in 1973 with about 1000 miles on it. Rode it all over NE USA with my girlfriend/wife. Actually thought about selling it several times over the years. My best friend told me he'd buy it, and sell it back to me when I came to my senses. I never did sell it. A year or so ago I told my son that it's his. He wants to cafe it. Told him he can do anything he wants to it, as long as it's bolt on, and he saves what he takes off, in case he ever wants to return it to origional/stock. He's OK with that. Lots of good memories with that bike.

I can't part with my 1983 Honda XL600R.

I swapped out the front rim for an 18" hoop (on stock hub) for a semi-supermoto conversion. I used Kenda K761 tires for the street. I sold it to a friend for a year, with the stipulation that I get first dibs if he ever sold it, and that is exactly what I did. After riding the heavy Aprilia Dorsoduro off road for a year, the XL feels like a lightweight trail bike now. Now that I have the "big" Aprilia SM, I have DOT knobbies on the XL; D606 rear, MT21 front. I also added a whole bunch of teeth to the rear sprocket, so it really climbs now. I missed the bike for the entire year it was away, so I can't see myself selling it again.

I commuted on one of those, an '83, for 10 years. Ran a Metzler Lazer 21" front and usually a Bridgestone Battlax on the rear. The Metzler was originally made for Harley springers. I used full synthetic oil because the dino stuff didn't hold up well under the high temperature it ran at. After 1500 miles, the engine would get a bit rattly, and with the synthetic it was still OK at 3000.

My '09 Kawasaki Super Sherpa. Bought it with ~625 miles on it in Wyoming, rode it in Colorado, moved to California for a few months, rode it around there, then moved back to Hawaii and here it sits, in my back yard. I should sell it for the cash, but I can't part with it. Its too much fun, even though its slow to go and slow to stop, with mediocre suspension. It'll chug along anywhere you want it to, all you need is a bit of patience!

Here's another bike I'll never sell, a modified 1968 Trail 90. While not my main bike I've always kept one or more around since I got my first one new in 1971. Costs next to nothing to keep licensed and insured and is very low maintenance. Will go anywhere except the freeway.
