Meeting Coco.

So, I never knew where Coco's Corner was. I had just heard about it. So when I saw it on the map I was stoked.... total bucket list material.










The Baja course literally goes right by his place.







we actually passed this guy on the road in. He is on a KLR wearing Long John's, and boxers with hiking boots.... damm Canadians....

He is from BC and said he has no plans on going home...... pretty cool.

We had heard in San Felipe that CoCo had lost his other leg to Diabetes. We wandered in a bought a few waters and chatted up with the man. Very interesting guy.



He is pretty lonely and tried to get us to stay the night.....but we needed to keep moving.

that didnt stop him from asking my wife to sit on his lap....





so we keep movin'





the very last 100 yards of the road, we run into this crew from Utah..... man how cool is that?



Back on the highway and headed toward Bay of LA!

Heading on the road down to Bay of LA I never would have thought there were that many cactus in the entire world, let alone on this thin peninsula. I mean - as far as the eye can see in every direction for 1000 miles.









cresting that final hill to see the bay is a cool feeling....





once in Bay of LA I was surprised to see.... there really isnt much of anything there. I thought for sure it would be more of a resort area.... but there is just.... nothing.

one of 100 local lunch stops. I loved having lunch in these local places. No mcdonalds, no burger kings..... awesome

Not a bad room - not cheap but great views



the whale skeletons everywhere were cool....



its really too bad this place REEKED of pet excrement - if they cleaned the place up I might go back but I cant recommend it. The smell was very pronounced.



I love being alone - but this place was deserted and it was a little creepy.

we have sand from all over - deserts, Vietnam, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, Ireland.... Mexico.... CHECK

while trying to pack in the morning, I put the centerstand down and the bike just fell over as if someone had pulled it over. I didnt even have time to try to keep it upright. Ehhhh whatever - new crashbars and in the sand.... so what. This turned out to be our only drop of the trip.... thank god.



I felt like sitting down for a minute anyways





We were trying to get to Guerrero Negro for wife's bday - she didnt want to hang out in cat shit for her bday.

SO - back to the highway.



saw this- Nice Rockster.... might still pop down there and offer the guy $100 for it...



pretty boring desert road into Guerrero Negro - but man you can see this flag for MILES. It had to have been 100 yards across.



we made it into Guerrero Negro for wife Bday dinner.

So Im going to have to skip around a little because of how Ive uploaded the pics..... apparently Ive forgotten to upload the pics of Gerrero Negro.

So for now Im gong to skip ahead to Mulege.

So once you get back across the peninsula to the east side again, it starts to get actually tropical. Santa Rosalia is a super cool little town. Picture Monterey, Ca but set in the old west.... but in Mexico. Super cool beach town but kind of industrial. Worth stopping for sure.

We rolled into Mulege not knowing what we were in for....



we took the main road into town which just seemed to end near the beach. The hurricane a few years ago totally wiped out the town near the beach and there were excavators building the road when we were there. We toured around till we finally found this little resort spot

supposedly the family has been down in Baja for forever and the name of the owner? Don Johnson.....a different one. Super nice guy - super cool place.

You can see how badly the place was hit







reminded me a lot of Vietnam

Our room at this resort was cool - there was kind of a hole in the corner of the room where you could light a fire and it channeled into the wall and out the roof. Sleeping to a fire was nice on this night.

packing up in the morning. I love how they just tell you to bring the bike onto the patio. its not going to hurt anything - its easier for you. Very not American. its awesome





as soon as you leave Mulege its tropical. beautiful. amazing.



the road from Mulege to about 100 miles past Loreto is one of the most amazing roads I have ever seen in my life.

I need to upload more of the road to Loreto but here is a teaser for now.... this is bucket list road without question. Fuck Blueridge parkway - you need to get down to Baja for the road between Guerrero Negro and Cuidad Constitution

so we roll into Loreto to find lodging - and a little side/backstory.

A few years ago my wife came down here on a cruise and got suckered into one of those timeshare deals. The wife called me and it sounded like a good deal from what she said on the phone. I have her the green light for it but as it turns out the actual cost of the timeshare was about 10 times what she said on the phone.
Needless to say when I found out I was upset. We were in Loreto because one of the time share locations was there and we were there to take advantage of what we had paid for.


The mission in Loreto is one of the oldest, or the oldest one in Baja....

anyone who has been in California for any length of time will remember Thirfy Ice Cream.... well Quyen grew up with it and its all over Mexico. She is a very happy camper with some of that stuff

Not being able to find our resort we had to ask where it was and found out that it's not actually IN Loreto....



it was starting to piss me off - why wasnt in Loreto? was is some backroad, redneck thing? so we get the directions and head out














we finally find out exit which is just a ratty dirt road off of the highway. A few miles in we turn a corner and see this


things were looking good......




this particular resort isnt even finished. its brand new and had only been open a few months. its on a private cove.....



the people at the front door thought we were lost. This place is reserved for super pasty-ass white people.

Staying at the Loreto Resort for us was the luxurious part of the trip. I love doing the adventure stuff quite a bit, but I also like sitting in a hot tub.... quite a bit. I also like being able to eat veggies and not wonder if ill be seeing them again shortly.

Here are some pics of the Loreto Property and some of my walk around the cove.

also this is probably the only part of the trip that I can offer as being unique...



























this kind of stuff also keeps the wife happy. She enjoys going on these trips because this is how we do it - slog through mexico for a week then stay at a resort for a few days to recharge.....then keep on goin!



happy wife, happy life, no? and then she will let you have motorcycles forever too
