Dayboro - Mt Mee - Woodford Sunday 18 Nov

Might do the run early forrest trail run tomorrow, Lacey creek rd, A Break, Gantry, neauram ck rd, Woodford

Coffee dayboro bakery at 7am for a 7.30 start, through to Woodford, haven't done that yet but wouldn't mind finding my way and back again, nothing serious just a casual run. Could be tempted to go through to Kenilworth.

Forrest trails DRZ400E medium pace, slower if needed, I just like a casual ride, after all I've got all day, just have to watch the radar for storms

Next time

Sounds good but cannot arrange it on short notice. Please post ride report. Hopefully it will include all the way to Kenilworth.

Nothing like a nice bit of rain, should make A Break a bit of fun, waiting for the rain to go over so 30 min behind at least if anyone is thinking of hooking up

If it wasn't for the thunder, lightning and rain, it would be a good day

Been following your spot and reckon with the amount of time you spent in Woodford and now heading home you will be a wee bit wet. Hope you had a good ride.

Ride report

The morning started later than I hoped but I could see on the radar the early morning storm was going to pass

http://share.findmespot.com/shared/f...mgxmQRRUCqrKiY

I left home a bit later and got into dayboro about 8am, great coffee at the dayboro bakery and I watched the storm roll through for half an hr. I found out why they call it Lacey's Creek that's for sure, the cause way was good but further on the road was inundated

On the way up things looked ok, but I could see on the radar it was closing in again, at least there was blue sky for a bit, you wouldn't believe how bad it got within 15 minutes of this shot. The road looked like someone had stripped all the bark off the trees and spread it all over the road. There was a few trees down on the road nothing serious.

Nothing like a good challenge racing up A Break being chased by a storm, I'm sure that lightning wasn't that close but couldn't see from the rain and those cracks of thunder scared the shit out of me, thank god for the gantry before that one really hit. The radar told me I had about half an hr to see it out, lucky I bought that bacon and cheese role from the dayboro bakery.

I'm sure the roadworks along the Forrest drive couldn't have been this bad when El Ponkin took the crew through a couple of weeks ago, I had to head back and along lovedays Rd to get through

Still plenty of water that way too

Anyway it was a good ride into Woodford for a CJ's curry pie, drink and camel back top up. Oh by the way how come I must be the only idiot who didn't know there was no fuel in Woodford, thank god for D'Aguila.

Headed back to Mt Mee Forest and could see trouble was on the horizon

I'm not normally a risk taker but I can tell you I cracked a pretty heavy pace back to the Gantry, the storm was rolling in just to the right over Somerset and I decided to bail out and take the shorter ride out along Sellin Rd, it was a cracker of a storm rolling in

By the time I got onto Mt Mee Rd it was bucketing down and I managed to outrun the storm and get back home

Man that was a fun day, I learnt a bit about the DRZ today mostly good, I'll post a bit about that later.

So a bit more about the DRZ400E

I get happier with the bike the longer I have it.

You can see I did some up top weight saving mods, headlight, pipe, rear fender, mainly for enduro rides, but it helps the bike all round.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know the tank is a bit small to call it an adventure bike. Well I like to think what I do is called "light adventuring", so it's my "light adventure bike". And I don't mean light by weight just short easy adventures with fuel stops available 100 or so K's.

I'll probably get a safari 17 ltr tank one day, but might just have to carry a couple of litres of fuel till then when needed.

Up until today I still wasn't sure about my tyres, today I realised my Pirelli MT21's are fantastic for that bike, . It didn't matter if it was dry road, wet road and even flooded road, or wet or dry Forrest rd the tyres were floorless. I belted it up A Break and they were great, i had them at 18 or 19 psi. Coming back on Mt Mee road cars were aquaplaing, the Pirellis were rock solid. I had in my mind after a bit of advice I would run them down a bit and buy something else, not anymore.

I've finally got my gearing almost perfect with 15 / 47, I might try 15 / 46 one day, but the 15 / 47 with the pirellis at 19 or 18 is fantastic

As a "light adventure bike my small tank bag is just right. It fits my maps, wallet, a couple of odds and sods, then there is a little clear top pocket for my GPS, and another zippered pocket for phone and glasses, bought it from 3rd gear on eBay for 20 or 30 bucks and just cut the heavy magnets out, the 2 straps left are solid.

You can see I did some up top weight saving mods, headlight, pipe, rear fender, mainly for enduro rides, but it helps the bike all round. The RMZ front guard is a bit of a modinizing touch as well.

Anyway I think the DRZ is the perfect value for me now, we'll see what happens in 12 months.

Yeah, there's a lot more dirt track through the mountains than my picks show

Nice report - thanks

Excellent ride report. Mt Mee is my local ride and I am looking to trade my 2006 KTM 250 exc-f for a new DRZ 400e.
