Should the 1190 Adv threads be placed in a new folder under Orange Crush?

I have not seen this idea thrown out in the OC yet, so apologies if this is a duplicate

Before a large number of 1190 Adventure threads are posted under the existing OC folder, I will throw out the idea to move all the existing 950/990 threads into a specific folder under OC and create a new folder for 1190 Adv threads, also under OC.

950/990 | 1190

My rationale is that the new 1190 Adventure differs in so many ways from its 950/990 predecessors:
  • new LC8 motors based on RC8 V-twin with very few common parts.
  • ride by wire throttle on new 1190
  • single gas tank versus two
  • extended (and probablydifferent) maintenance schedule
  • revised suspension (i.e. electronic)
  • slipper clutch
  • different seats
  • adjustable windscreen
  • revised headlight setup
  • revised exhaust routing / placement
  • etc. etc.
Perhaps the moderators are already planning for this? I would be interested to hear your thoughts ...

I think it would be a good Idea. Save both groups time weeding through posts.

I agree that it seems like a great idea. I'll visit both sides, even if I am gonna hafta stay as a 950 guy for awhile (forever?).

Every other friggin' bike doesn't have a separate forum. No reason for one here. The 1190 is a "KTM's adventure/dirt V-twin" - it fits.

Not that much difference. The SE has a single tank and battery up top. 990s have efi. Whatever. There isn't that much traffic here.

I'm not sure, we have been putting up with the 990 guys for a while now... the 1190s would be the same for those of us still on 950s. Just sayin, a lot of 990 stuff isn't relevant to a 950 owner but it's still OC.

I don't get what people see in adding categories.

It just narrows the focus. And narrows the expertise brought to bear.

Over at they have recently divided the Multistrada 1200 from the 1100 and earlier.

Last post in the 1100 space was 18 days ago.

So what have they gained?

Still can't believe KTM builds badass off road bikes and then quits building them for luxury slab touring comforts and windshields,ABS, elec. susp, etc.etc.. Ktm needs to stick to dirt. My two favorite KTM's (505SX & 950 SE) are discontinued but I can get all kind of Dukes, SMC's, SMT's for the street. They should put the 1190 in the Goldwing thread

If we are going to make another category it should be called "What tires/tire pressures should I run" ... Should reduce the traffic on the rest of the board by quite a bit.

Beyond that we don't need any more categories.

Us 950 guys know our problems too well by now and take great interest in the problems of fuel injection, in-tank fuel filters, snatchy throttles, F1 lights and ABS that the 990 has brought to the forum but the 1190 is just to far removed to be included.

Maybe we should have a separate forum for the 950's but as all our problems are sorted it could be a bit quiet. These things about to become collectors items like the BMW R80 GS so start hording.
