Cheaper alternative to Go Pro Camera?

IMO, the sound on the coutour roam sucks, anything over 15mph sounds like you're in a wind tunnel.

I put a piece of electrical tape over the LED and mic, that brought the level up to about 35m/h. Noticeable improvement.

There is a big difference in image quality between the standard GoPro HD Hero and the GoPro HD Hero 2. I've got both and the 2 is mucho better - much sharper, richer color and better shadow detail out of the camera.

If you can't spend for the 3 series, the Hero 2 is a good camera and the deal Joetool mentions is a good one

i tried the gopro hero, got a dud that never worked so i returned it and got something cheaper.

i got the xtc205 from wallmart, for like $90 out the door. the only con is that it is only 720p but i dont get paid for my vids so i could care less.

pros is this thing is MUCH more aerodinamic and lighter than the gopro. ive also taken two or three crashes right on the camera and besides the following min or two of footage being a little screwy after a crash nothing permenant has occured yet

Sorry for the tangent but I was in cyclegear 3 days ago and they had a huge display with the new HD3 I think it was gopro boasting a sale price of 300 and then later that night saw the HD3 at target for 200. Curious is there is any difference?

Also anyone know if they can sink with the motorola defy rugged phone?

Ricky there are 3 models of the GoPro 3 - the Black $399, the Silver $299 and the White $199.
Black is 12 mp and highest resolution etc, Silver is 11 mp and White is 5 mp basically. Make sure you're comparing the same models

Their wifi app is made for Android and iPhone so if the Motorola is Android you're good

Thanks Lonestar... looked back at it and you were exactly right. Cycle gear was the silver and target had the white one.

I bought one of those a couple of months ago off of woot. I've yet to use it on a motorcycle but I've used it several times in my vehicle. In all recording modes I've seen jerky playback and undulation. Might just be that my sd card isn't fast enough. I'm holding out judgement until I know it's not the sd card's fault.

"jerky playback" could be a bad framerate or several other things. "undulation" is rolling shutter.

I'm thinking about getting the Hero 3 White Edition. I don't need good still picture capabilities, so the 5mp camera isn't a drawback for me. I highly doubt I'll even use the still picture function at all... Ever. I have a camera with a back screen for taking pictures. I also don't need cinema quality video. I would just like something that will record good video at 1080p or 720p. It seems that the $200 white edition does just that. For what I'll be using the camera for, I think the silver or black edition would be wasted money.

I've looked into some of the cheaper cameras and I keep seeing the common complaint of videos being too jittery. If I spend the money and go through the work of mounting a camera, I want good quality video. The fact that I see GoPros mounted in tons of tv shows is quite telling of their quality IMO. Plus I've seen literally thousands of videos on the internet taken on GoPros.

after reading some reviews the GoPro Hero 2 is still the best bang for the buck IMO I had the original Hero and went to the Hero 2 . I now have all sorts of doo dads for it and its is the best way to go . I wouldnt bother with the White edition , might as well get the Hero 2 for the price difference. to step up to the Black would be the only reason to purchase the Hero 3
