Reminder: Peak Protest ride Nov 25

Peaks & Derbyshire Vehicle Users Group and the Trail Riders Fellowship are running the third Back to Tarmac Protest tomorrow (Sunday 25 November).
The motorists are protesting at plans by the Peak District National Park Authority to ban them from using unsurfaced roads in the National Park.
Previous protests have been concentrated on minor tarmac roads in the Park, but this time convoys of slow-moving vehicles will be travelling through towns and on major roads.
Setting off from 10 am the vehicles will travel from Monsal Head Ashford in the Water - A6 - Buxton - Dove Holes - Sparrowpit - unclassified road to Winnats Pass - A6187 - Castleton - Hathersage - right on the B6001 - Grindleford - Calver cross roads - A623 - Baslow - through Chatsworth Park on the B6012 - Rowsley - A6 - Bakewell turn right through Ashford again on the B6465 to finish at the Yonderman Café at Wardlow Mires on the junction with the A623.
A spokesman for PDVUG said: “We currently have access to only two per cent of the rights of way network in the Peak District National Park, and the Authority is now planning to ban or restrict us on many of those routes for no objective reason.
“This is not acceptable. Those visitors to the Park who do not wish to encounter vehicles on their rambles have a 98 per cent vehicle-free network to use, plus all the right-to-roam land. They deliberately seek to misinform and tarnish us by describing us as ‘off-roaders’ when all we want to do is drive and ride on old roads that have always been open to vehicles. Motorcyclists and motorists have been using the unsurfaced roads in the Peak District since the 1900s, and there is no reason to stop us now.”
