Sealed connector crimping tool?

On my next project bike I have realized that I need to get more professional with my wiring which means no more autozone insulated bullet connectors. I want to start using more WeatherPack type connectors and also sumitomo type connectors.

I have a ratcheting type crimper for insulated connectors and I really like that style. I see that they now come with interchangeable jaws for all sorts of crimping tasks.

Is there a set you can point me to that will handle all my future crimping needs for the sealed connector variety?

This is like what we have at work for doing those connectors you have shown, i have a kit like you listed i got dirt cheap and have never used it.

Thanks I bought a Wiha crimper tonight based on my past excellent experience with their tools made in Germany. A buddy recommended the correct "jaws" so I think I'm good.

Crimpers you say. . . . .



The top one is a genuine crimper from Packard Electric for Weather Pack terminals like you have pictured in your bottom picture. Crimps both the terminal & water tight seal at the same time. Good luck finding that one!




The other 3 below are GM tools from Kent-Moore for terminal crimping. Watch Craiglist or FleaBay for those.



The bottom one, you can still get and, it does a very good job!

It's made by Xcelite. Part # ECP-112 LINKY

I think you would be very happy with the Xcelite crimper. Shop around and find the best price.




Sargent also makes good crimpers. They also make the tools used by GM service techs from Kent-Moore. The second one down in my picture is a Sargent that came from Kent-Moore at a GM dealership.

BTW Weather Pack connections have a finite life cycle, so would not suggest using them anywhere that there will be a lot of plugging and unplugging.

The NASCAR Teams have converted to Deutsche fittings, due to their extended plug and unplug life cycle.

Unfortunately the crimping tool for those connectors is a bit pricey also.

Yes Weather pack connectors have a finite life span, they are easy to rebuild and seem to work for years of service on my bikes without issue

I do quite a bit of wire work. I have at least 3 or 4 Molex type tools and they all do some terminals but not others. They all went into retirement when I got this one a couple years ago:

for ring terminals & splices I use Amp PIDG aircraft stuff.... the crimper MS 59250 is like $1400 new last I checked but comes up on fleaby pretty regular under a 100 or so

Thanks guys I had a look around and wasn't surprised some of the aviation stuff was obscenely priced, wow.

I just threw the weatherpack connector out there as an example.

here's why i want this stuff. On my project bikes, I have the factory harness from a street bike, but then I have added tons of LED, GPS, HID ballasts etc and the wiring becomes stupidly messy. Plus bullet connectors and spade connectors it's a mess.

So I have a new project bike where I am going to build a rally type front fairing on a Ninja 650. The main tower I would like to have just a few connectors to remove it all completely from the bike. One stock one for the gauges and another one I make with 12-16? pins for everything else. I really like the Sumitomo type connectors Eastern Beaver has and plan to use those in the build. I want to take my wiring from complete garage hack to at least something resembling marginally professional

Here's a pick of the crimper I bought. It was 50% off, I have really enjoyed the Wiha screwdrivers, plus I got a nice set of Linesman pliers free with another philips screwdriver to bump my order over $100. They also have crimpers that look exactly like the Exclilte thing posted above so I assume they are made by the same firm.

That crimper looks nice and i had forgotten to say get one that rachets as those make it so much easier to hold the terminal while pushing the wirer into it. Have fun practicing with it, once you get the hang out it their super easy.

Just got my Wiha crimpers in the mail today, love that place. they feel very quality, I like the made in Germany too. I will actually get some of the crimpy things and report back
