'12 GS1200 speedo removal
Can the speedo/instrument panel be "popped" off? Or does it need tools?

It has three clips that need to be pulled before it can be pulled loose.

The clips are not easy to get to while it's in place.
If you remove the screws either side of the headlight, you can remove the entire headlight and instrument assembly together. You may need to remove the windshield screws at the front and loosen the windscreen to get the assembly out, but it comes out through the front. Just remove the instrument cable plug, the headlight plug and the daytime running light.
Note that there's a locating pin on the bottom as part of the headlamp aiming system, so you have to lift it off that as you take it out, and make sure you locate it back on the pin when you reassemble.
I removed mine recently to make it easier to install my GPS mount and cabling.
It's a 5 minute job with a single torx driver, and makes life a lot easier. (I know you said no tools... But i assume you have at least a Torx Multi tool. If not, you should get one!)

The clips come right off with a pair of needlenose pliers. You just have to do it blind. They are c-clips with a 90* bend at the end to get some purchase with an edged tool. Really easy to do either way but i like to take off as few parts as required.
