Question Yep I'm gonna ask it....what oils do you like and run in your thumpers?

Everybody loves talking about oils right? So I thought I'd get some opinions on what my fellow thumper riders are using oil-wise. I run Mobil 4T Racing full syn in my street bikes, but I just noticed that Valvoline makes a full syn 4T bike oil as well, and its a buck cheaper than the Mobil. I've heard good things about the Valvoline, so I'm going to try it in my air-cooled thumper.

Just curious what experiences you've had with this or other oils in your bikes

My KLR recently turned over 40K. I've never run anything motorcycle specific/JASO approved, and she is still thumping along just fine. Run either M1 15w50 or Mobil Delvac 15w40.

this might tell my age/experience here at advrider but just search for it. there is a ton of info on this subject.

IMO i would not be trying to save a dollar.on oil. Now I will say that the motorex stuff is way over priced. 30 dollars for 2 quarts of oil? I'll pass.

Went from Rotella T to Delo 400E because it's cheaper at Costco. With 3 bikes thats a decider for me. Both good oils. I change often.

I've run Amsoil in everything I own for years. The difference in engine sound when I switched from Mobil 1 was substantial. It's not the most expensive oil (~ $8 per qt), but it's far from the cheapest. I really do think it lasts a bit longer before needing changed compared to other oils, but many folks will disagree.

I may make the switch to Rotella T next year though, 8 oil changes a year gets a bit pricey.

I run Rotella synthetic in my boat but I wasn't happy with it in the LC4. Shifting got notchy as soon as I used it. It blew my mind that oil could make a difference in shifter feel. It never has on any other bike I have ever owned when I ran Rotella.

But the difference between Rotella synthetic and the Mobil1 that had been in it was obvious as soon as I rode the bike. Then switching the Rotella out for Motorex was quite distinct. So I will bite the bullet and feed my LC4E the expensive oil.
