NSW won't recognise QLD Conditional Rego
Well we have QLD all sorted for James my paraplegic son to ride his 1000cc Canam Renegade Quad in Qld Forests and associated roads on his QLD conditional rego. QPWS gave him a 2 year access permit and the cops have been brilliant with giving permits for the public roads for each ride many thanks to the help of one of our inmates. He is truly an ADV member after a 500km round trip on the last ride.
Now with an upcoming ride across the border it was time to approach NSW to see if he could go across the border. Needless to say NSW roads said they won't recognise the QLD Conditional Rego and there is no registration scheme that would allow the quad except a special scheme only applicable to Stockton Beach. They also said they treated forests and National Parks as private land and they were up to the landowners however there was no way of approving gazetted roads. NSW Forestry said there was nothing applicable to James's situation so a usual "brick wall". I can't believe the attitude is "no way you can't do that" instead of "well let's see how we can make this happen", These guys seriously don't think that somebody who has to put so much effort to get out of bed every morning is going to accept "NO" so easily. Anyway bring it on they are in for a fight.

Yes we are starting to think that way, just starting to get our thoughts together and see if the Spinal Association will back us.
Might start canvassing MPs etc they seem keen to show they care about the rights of the disabled.

I take it the problem is the fact that he's riding a quad, rather than him being a paraplegic? ie. they won't rego a quad regardless of who's riding it?
Does he get a number plate with the Qld rego? Maybe just say fuck them and do it. If he gets booked, ring ACA or Current Affair - make sure you have their number on hand so you can ring them on the spot. |

Everyone hates quads because so many rural users have come to grief with no safety kit.
Yes he has a rego plate but the quad is fairly big and obvious, we will see how our options go but it would be bloody funny if we did as you suggested and they arrested him and had to carry him to the cop car.

Try a different angle.
Get stickers made (Mobility scooter or Gopher) Place over the CAN AM Badge, NO SPECIAL LICENCE REQUIRED & NO REG required. Organise James a UHF with a couple of bikes in front and behind, see any problems let James know slow to 10kph or nail it and they will call of the chase .?? Highly modified Gopher. Farmers move all types of equipment from one property to another with no reg or permits and generally get away with it. Keep up the fight guys. |

Got to be careful not to lose his license as his mobility is everything I know it would be an absolute bastard who would do it but they do exist. We can't get RTA conditional rego as we don't live there but their regs say not for recreation anyway except stockton beach. What we need is them to recognise QLD Conditional Rego. More phone calls tomorrow.

Good luck with doing it all official Andy, NSW s is probably the most bogged-down red tape state of the lot. I still live in QLD but work in NSW and everything to do with government is a fucking shitfight!!

Quad Squad
Ponkin,
You may want to check these guys out. They rode from Istanbul to Sydney on 3 x quads. The assumption being they rode through a fair amount of NSW to be able to achieve their goal. So it is possible somehow. http://www.yamaha-motor.com.au/hotne...eum-collection

This might seem a bit off topic, but how do the guys who race the quads in the rallies go?
I know most of them are on private property, but the liaisons aren't and I've seen the Polaris challenge run them in rounds of the Australian rally champs as well. Just wondering...
