Andy,
Try Les Jensen from Aussie Quad Adventures 0418 723 155, he seems to have his head around what you need to do to run quads on public roads ........ in Qld at least .......... but he might be able and I'm sure would be more than willing to help

Thanks for all the help and advice, not sure about the Quad Squad but the Against the Grain guys ran on special event permits as they were making a doco, presume the rallies are run the same way. Most other quads are seeking standard recreational use and everyone is fighting against that because of the poor safety rap from farm use. James's case is different as it is a "mobility aide" to do what an able bodied person is allowed to do legally on a two wheeled motorcycle, we will win just a matter of time. Thanks for the support fellas.

It's all in the wording

My wife used to work for a government department giving funds to families with disabled children.
Head office had said that NO money would be put forward for motorbikes or quads.

However they were able to get a 2 seater rough terrain mobility aid ( Polaris RZR 800 )!!!!

cheers, Gordo'

Might just win this one fingers and toes crossed.

Don't know him personally but I do know that Assistant Commissioner Mike Corboy of the NSW Police is pretty heavily into bikes. He might be someone to send a letter to as he would probably be more inclined to give you a fair hearing than someone with no interest in them. He's also pretty high up so if you get him onside you could be in with a chance.

Hope it works out well.

And so the circus starts again! Any country that couldn't build a rail system with the same gauge was always going to have bureaucratic issues in the long run.

Good luck - am sure that as usual common sense will eventually prevail.

Cheers

Vic Rec Reg

Not that it helps your situation Andy, but something relevant to this thread is some research I did years ago around use of Victorian Rec Reg in neighbouring states.

NSW was predictably a flat NO. As Paul Keating said "if your not in Sydney your camping out", so you can bugger off.

South Australia however, have a clause in their traffic act which states if you have rego for a particular purpose in another state, and you are operating the vehicle under the same conditions in South Australia, your rego is recognised. So you can use Vic Rec reg in SA.

The sooner we get a national licensing and registration system the better.

Are you on crack? Australia as such a small pisant country is extremely good at making the most fucked up laws.

The safety fucks out there should all be shot. Life is a risk.

Any further regulation via the Feds would be terrible.

Look at what they did with ADRs. Fucked us from buying bikes from OS direct.

The person who mentioned our railways nailed it.

There is a huge % of stupid people in Australia who give lawmakers impetus to restrict others (like us) who can think.

Both sides are bad. Being a right winger I'm not a fan of labour but the libs have not come out with a red tape slashing program yet.

Australia is such an easy country to govern - but we have so many fucked laws.

For who?
