230 or 650

I'll share my experience's with two similar bikes I own & ride. They are a Suzuki 2002 DR650 & a Kawasaki 2006 KLX250S. The difference's between the two are power and weight. The seat height on my 650 is lower than the 250 (note 09 & newer KLX250s are lower than a 06/07 model). The weight difference (50lbs +) is noticeable just moving them around in the garage. Out on the road; obviously the 650 likes to move along quickly. The 250 will keep up if the revs are kept up and shift often to stay in the upper rpm range. On hills such as Rt.221 from Roaring Run Rd. back towards Goode the lack of displacement of the 250 has to be compensated with downshifting to top the hill at 50 mph. Group ds riding I take the 650. Solo backroads/woods riding I take the 250.

I used to ride an XT-225. I never had a problem staying with the group. I even had a KLR-650 rider ask me how I was pulling away from him in the uphill twisties. Most group rides are not high speed affairs. The BRP has a 45 mph speed limit.

The 230 will be much easier to learn the ropes on and if you buy used, when you're ready to move up, you'll be able to sell it for very close to what you paid for it.

You'll do good hooking up with some of the FFs in this thread.
