Guys,
Feel free to have a go at me for asking a tyre question......but everybody posts up about knobbies and I don't want f#cking knobbies.

I'm trying to find something more "in between".

Hopefully someone who has some knowledge of the tyres I'm thinking of will reply.

However, moderators, if you feel my thread is out of line feel free to nuke the whole thing.

BTW, I'm looking for Australian related tyre stock, not OS stuff (we don't get the same tyres or prices here- and I'm not really interested in price yet anyway).

Thanks,
Ock.
mitas e-07 rear,8000km-10000km+,ac10 front still going at 7000km+ (950ktm)mitas has all the grip you need on the rear.

Thanks for the response guys.

Cheapest to dearest- E07, Mefo, K60.

All fairly similar in tread.

Mileage will be the difference in the end I guess.

To you "not tyres again" knockers....bet you posted a similar question after trawling through the tons of tyre thread posts when you first started looking, maybe not on ADV but probably on a forum or two somewhere

Now, about the oil in my KLE???

For what it's worth Annakee 2's, 35,000km in a year from one set. Commuting being 90+%.

Did play on the farm for a bit but wet grass was interesting.

G'day Woody,

I have tried the Anakees on the Wee-Strom but keep going back to the Tourance on it as they give better grip in the wet and better mileage.

However the KLE is spending more time on the dirt so I need something closer to a 50/50 tyre rather than an 80/20

The Dunlop 605's are doing a reasonable job for grip on both dirt and tar but 5000km on the rear isn't anywhere near what I'm used to from a rear tyre [15-18,000km from Tourance on the back of the Wee]

I'm planning a couple of 4,000-5,000km trips next year and preferably don't want to have to find tyres part the way through the trip at some unknown location.

E07 is looking like the next one to try on the KLE, will probably try K60's on the Wee [ was given a half worn set that are sitting in the shed, also have a brand new rear Anakee in the shed that will end up being used at some point I guess- or maybe I will find someone I can swap it with for something else].

Cool2

Well I've gone for the "middle ground" on price.

Bought a set of Mefo Explorers yesterday, won't be fitting them for a couple of weeks as there is still some life left in the 605's.

The Mefo has a rounder profile than the K60 and the tread looks a little deeper than the E07, also looks a little more dirt oriented as far as tread pattern goes.

If I can get out around 10,000km from a rear tyre with a 50/50 type tread I would be happy.

I will be getting in some decent ride time over Christmas to try them out.

Thanks to all for the replies.

Let me know what you think of the MEFO's I ve had k60's on the strom for a while (10k plus) and I wouldn't say I was happy with them but they have done everything I have asked (Other than one slimy creek crossing where I got my mojo wrong) I am seriously thinking of going back to a mitas e-09 - e-10 for the strom rear and then something on the front if I can ever get the k60 to wear out!

Interesting read.. I was considering after my E10 rear wore out (nearly 7000kms n I ride it hard) that I would swap it to a E07 dakar.. After taking a f800 for a spin with TKC80's though, I'm very suprised how much better the TKC80 is on road.

The E10 felt like a knobby but handled quite well on the road but the TKC80 handled the same as the Tourance EXP's which is heaps better than the E10..

As for off road I would say both tyres were about the same

I think a TKC80 is next for me.

But what bike are you putting them on? [may not handle like the Beemer with the same tyres.]

I have found tyres don't always work the same on different bikes.

Interesting read.... Replace the Karoo and Karoo T ... Noooo. I recon they're the best front going around for my Katoom. May have to buy a couple and stick in the shed.

I just fitted a new set of K60 Heidenau Scouts to the R1200GS today, the second set now on the big girl. Not overly impressed with the first set but they seem to be the correct tyre for my style of riding. A great tyre to ride hard on the blacktop, the front is good in the gravel and they don't mind the mud. Never tried sand but one day I guess.

Why go the second set you ask, well the new style seems to me a lot better than the originals. The Heidies were replaced today because the front was cupping and making the front bob up and down and the back was nearly worn out, both at 11,080 km.

Cheers

Rob A.
