That's what I thought at first and then I realised that the heat trace in those circumstances is actually the heat radiating from the brake disc. The way that the heat trace grows from that point when the brakes are applied is what made me twig.

So why would the whole surface of the right tire heat up in a left hand corner, and the whole surface of the left tire heat up in a right hand corner? I think we're seeing tire heat, not disc heat.

F1 cars run a fair amount of negative camber, so the inside edges have more pressure on them in a straight line - resulting in higher temps.

weather.com says 80% chance of rain during the day on Sunday. Scattered storms in the morning, afternoon storms likely. With the race itself lasting, what, 90 minutes, they might be able to drive between the rainfall. But it seems almost certain that the track will be damp, at a minimum.

Was this Lotus' first race with the longer chassis? I guess if it rains Sunday we'll find out if their poor qualifying was due to the longer car... or more downforce in anticipation of wet conditions.

Hamilton sure sounded upset.

Absent rain, I expect we'll see Vettel ride off into the distance yet again. Come on rain!

They have a pretty severe camber on those wheels so I imagine that contributes.

Fernando Alonso also allegedly called his team "idiots" over the radio during his final qualifying lap, as Ferrari's tactic of slipstreaming their cars backfired.

Alonso had to deny that he had lost his temper with his Ferrari team after seeming to call them "idiots" at the end of qualifying. He claimed not entirely convincingly that he had sarcastically called them "geniuses," using the Italian "genii", and not, as it sounded, "scemi".

Alonso had been frustrated by the implementation of Ferrari's slipstreaming plan, which they had worked on earlier in the day. But Massa got too far ahead and then the team abandoned the idea during the final run. Alonso said: "It was perfect. We planned to have [Massa] a little bit in front and he was helping me out on the straights. An extra tenth or something was thanks to him. It was a very good qualifying for us. We were fighting with the top guys, finally, after some qualifying sessions where we were not so good."
And Ferrari say they haven't ruled out signing Kimi.

Lotus tested it Friday w/ Kimi, but decided not to use it. (only 10 cm longer, Kimi said he couldn't tell any difference)
I think they have more wing.
Hope it rains.....

Come on Webber... get a start for a change & bump your little friend off at turn one

Blech. Let's face it, Red Bull have a fantastic car and there's no way Vettel can be caught. I hate it but that's just the way it is.

I enjoyed Mario Andretti on the broadcast, even if he's a bit old and inarticulate. Naturally, blabbermouth Steve Matchett talked over him repeatedly. Ol' Steve even talked over team radios, his words are so important.

Andretti and David Hobbs kept talking up Hulkenberg. Anyone here think he'll get a top ride next season? Replace Massa?

I think the most disappointing thing was that (only?) di Resta had a thermal cam onboard and then crashed out on the 2nd chicane Would've love to see more thermal images during the race.

I'm guessing the the lack of posts about Monza reflects boredom or dissatisfaction with the Red Bull runaway.
