How cool would it be?...ophir to black bear

So our local access group PAPA (public access preservation association) is ramping up the fight to re open a classic connector route from the west side of Ophir into Briedal Veil Basin and out to Black Bear pass at the powerstation. I was talking with one of the PAPA guys the other day and it hit me how much more support they could get from visiting riders if they knew what was at stake. If they succeed you will be able to go up BB til it turns to one way, hang a right, go past the house on the cliff and end up on Ophir. It won't be one of the easier routes, Its all scree on the ophir side and all bedrock in Marshall basin...

so......if you plan to come to the SJ's this summer or any summer to ride passes I'd really recommend joining PAPA.

If someone has a really good pic of the westside of ophir, I can vaguely point out where this road is..

i had also heard that there is basically an old road from the lake at the top of Imogene that would connect to Black Bear as well..was this system what was called the Marshall connector at one point? it would be awesome if they could get these already established and historically used trails back open! Thanks for bringing this to others attention!

Tom, is that the old Oscar's Pass route into Bridal Veil Basin? If so, I have hiked that route and it would be an awesome moto route! Always wanted to get the bike to that summit. This would be very cool!!

I think there are a couple ways to do the Imogene to BB connect, one is all scree and uber gnarly, on the telluride side. Didn't make it to far!

the other, on the 550 side, is on a lot of tundra that could get tore up pretty fast, so I've stayed off of that one. They are both technically not open but....

Yep this is the Bridal Veil Basin connector. Now that the BV house is back in the ownership of Idarado PAPA feels we might have a chance.

Oh man, Tom...that place where your bike is setting...if y'all get that opened, do you think you could bring in a few bulldozers and some asphalt trucks for us non-Chuck Norris types?

lookin the other way..

I spent a couple great days exploring old mining roads last summer, they are everywhere!! All scree, nothing to hurt except my tires and my pride.

this one off of cinnamon

They could open up a huge amount of gnar... if they wanted to.

Heck, you just need a TW200 with those big fat tires for riding that stuff. Anyway, beautiful possibility and good luck with getting the connectors established again. Someday...........I............

I think I saw their trailer parked in La Plata canyon a couple weeks ago. As an aside, I didn't know you had a 4t Tom....

I've hiked the blix road before. Does the lower part miss Ace's property? I can't remember where it meets the Ophir road. Neat up there anyway.

Does this route happen to go through any of the infamous Mr. Chapman's properties? Sounds like his stuff is closer to the ski area......?

I think it misses Aces, its uphill of there a bit. Ace sold his pad to Andy Ward btw.

Not sure about Chapmans claims but I think it does go through some of Glen Pauls property, I'm sure he's all for getting it opened up again.
