I don't know about gorilla tape but duct tape when aged leaves a residue on the rim that is a pain in the ass to get off. I don't use duct tape for this reason alone an actually the rubber rim strips work just fine for me. I like the bicycle rim tape idea.

Wide cloth medical tape from Rite Aid. The stuff you use to hold bandages in place. 2 or 3 wraps and it's good
(I wrap over a rubber rim strip just for added bay bum smoothness). S1 Actually I use baby bum talc for dryness too.
