The plan is to leave Omaha and get to colorado, then ride Trail Ridge, Mount Evans, Pikes peak, million dollar highway, visit mesa verde, ride the north side of grand canyon, to Los Angeles. From LA go north on pacific coast highway and some mountain roads to San Francisco. See some Giant Redwoods, head East to lake Tahoe, then along highway 50, across the great salt flats and then make our way back to Omaha. Total mileage around 3700. Plan to make the trip in 10-11 days. The more the merrier. Currently, it's 2 guys riding sport bikes.

Just ride it solo.
Or talk to dynamick, i'm sure he'll need a lot of convincing to want to go.

Looget all my buddies in here....
Matt, ride to the NM CO border, do the Divide in CO and WY and head home. I could spend a lifetime riding the Rockies and the Cascades.

This is my 17 yr old son. He is a little reluctant to go solo. I am going to Canada DAMN rider style . Maybe I can convince him to come along? He sounds more and more like he is going solo anyway .

Really none of my business, but I'll throw my 2-cents out here anyway.......I would really caution him against riding solo across the US as a 17 year old. Not because of worrying about him getting into trouble, but because of his age restrictions. IF he DID have a problem, as a 17 year old would he be able to legally handle it? He would possiblh not be able to get medical treatment without an adults consent, wouldn't be able to rent a hotel room as a minor, or rent a car or truck if he had to because of a breakdown. IF he had any legal problems, he would still be considered a minor as well...very limited legal rights as a 17 year old.
The year of my 50th birthday was also the summer my son turned 18.....we did a 2400 mile/10 day road trip that May when my son got out of HS. Still one of the best times of my life. Even though we haven't done any other really long trips like that since, we still have done several weekend trips together, and I still enjoy them quite a bit. Try to get him to go along with you instead of doing the solo thing.....hopefully it will be a lifetime memory for BOTH of you. |

i'm from Delaware way back when.
Appalacians south > NW Alabama > cross Mississippi > toward Little Rock > ride a few days in the Ozarks (we have a map) > exit out of SE Oklahoma. at this point either slab it across to New Mexico or ride down into the Texas Hill Country (we have a map) the northern alternative is RT 2 at the top of the country. Google Maps - terrain view is a great way to look for terrain change and thus fun roads. https://maps.google.com/?ll=37.16031...506836&t=p&z=5
