Grand Canyon

Does anyone have any recommendations for must-sees while here. I will be at the Grand Canyon via a R1200GS on April 5th.

I hear the North Rim is closed. I am wondering if there any spots I should get to that would be open this time of year.

The south rim even though a lot of people around is still a good view of this giant canyon. It's a great site to see. Enjoy the views.....

South Kaibab

hike a ways down the South Kaibab trail on the south rim for the best view of the canyon - I would go 1 hour.

don't hike down bright angel as its in a cleft - restricted view

The visitor's center at the south rim is not that old. Make sure you take a bit time to look around the center.

Just south of the rim is Valle, the Planes of Fame air museum is well worth the entry fee.

Stop in Tusayan, 6 miles before the south rim and go see the IMAX presentation on the canyon. I think it shows every half hour.
Also, buy your park passes at the IMAX theater as well. That will allow you to enter the park in the express lane bypassing hundreds of mindless zombies purchasing their tickets at the gates.

Took my girlfriend to Toroweap back in '09...

...and proposed

That spot MUST NOT be missed! Watch out for the silt beds as you approach the canyon. I passed a group of guys on Beemers heading the other way and they were covered with dust from getting up close and personal with the silt.

Can you still camp on the edge at Toroweep? There used to be two sites right on the edge. When we went, we had to camp about 1/8mile up the trail from the edge, because the two sites were taken.

There also used to be a sign in book there also.

We were there last year, and did not see any camp sites on the edge...just the sites back a ways....Don't remember if the sign in book was there or not.
