Going up to CT. to get another bike. Or, at least I THINK I'm getting another bike.

Chris

Heh, heh... beat ya.
Then again, I went west - not the same bike. Just finished cleaning it up.

Still, that means: no ride with Walter tomorrow. Robert.

11AM Start Time

I'm fog-socked in pretty well, suspect much of where we'll be riding will be as well, and am going to push the start time back to 11AM.

As Dan said during our late lunch; "I know the forecast was for clouds, but they didn't say they would be at road level"

Seven of us (Dan GS12, Gil MS12, Joe 990Adv, Mike SuperDuke, Randy VFR, Vik Panigale, moi 950SM,) left Oldwick in conditions that could only be described as dreary: foggy, damp, chilly, wet surface, jerkoff drivers on 1.5 lane roads driving without lights coming out of the fog in the middle of the road (idiots in the mist). It was bad enough that after about 1/2 hour I was looking for a place to stop and see if we should just bag the ride.

Mike's hands couldn't wait that long, and he bailed in High Bridge. 10 minutes later I stopped at the WoodGlen general store (decent place, but no bathroom for customer use, so crossed off the future stop list) for coffee and to make a decision on what to do. That's where the picture above was taken around noon.

After some dithering, all except Joe decided to press on. And glad we did, as it seemed as soon as we made one turn the fog dissipated. It was still chilly/damp and the roads were still mostly wet (and conditions remained pretty much like that the rest of the day), but visibility was good

We did see some semi-blue sky and what looked suspiciously like almost sunshine at the Allamuchy gas stop which got our hopes up (only to be soon dashed ); and were probably there around the time Simon got the dirt tag (we briefly discussed going to get it, but with the Panigale......).

We did the next ~ 50 miles to the Log Cabin on 46 near the Gap for a late lunch. I was worried that it would be pirate-crowded, but for some reason there were no other bikes there

Huge sandwiches, good lobster bisque, salads, and pizza; and it was devoured with an earnestness that seemed to indicate that it tasted good.

After that we all split for home. I doubt if anyone made it home before dark.

Overall I think it was a pretty good ride.

Yea, I saw a GS headed west on 80 at 0900 and it was thick. Did not look fun for him The fog didnt lift in the harbor until 1300. Funny thing it was clear as a bell the entire time out at Ambrose I was told by the sea pilot.
Again this am.

Wouldn't be too worried about a little dirt.
It's the salt on the roads now

Pix are from a Panigale that was in a flooded garage for a week in Staten Island
Case blew out when he was washing it, paper thin already
Bike's Totaled

Was that from sitting in the salt water? Magnesium case on the bike? Doesn't rust, but it does corrode.

Yes Mag outer covers. Bike was submerged in a garage for about 20 hours
Probably something you don't experience often, may never, but makes you realize what the exposure to salt can do!

Just ride up to Vermont and NH, and see the derelict cars rusted out on the side of the road and in back-yards. The salt can turn a car to powder in a very short period of time. That's why I can't understand how you fellows take out your pretty bikes in the winter months, when all the streets are covered in white mist salt.
