Ambivalent about this thread
I'm curious about this thread because I ride a 23 year old ('88) K75 and I'm thinking about buying a '93. While the techology was advanced for its time....let's face it, these are "old" bikes. My question is: Are there folks here who would be willing to discuss these bikes, or should I look elsewhere? Thanks guys!

The thing is pre-historic so discussion about it probably belongs here.
But I had an ex-girlfriend who had one, so I don't want to talk about her, uh, it. She called it "The Truckster." Now, years later, I look upon IT fondly. |

This might be the greatest start of a thread I've seen in years.

I had a 91 K75S for a few years,K bikes where way ahead of there time. FI, aluminum gas tank, single sided swing arm. Back tire could be removed in 5 minutes front maybe 10, enough storage under the seat for a rain suite. Cool bikes. Why did I sell mine?

I like em. Indestructable, nice, fairly fun, easy to work on, (relatively) cheap and extremely available parts, reliable.

Well, since buying it approx. a year ago, I've put three new tires on it; one due to a puncture and wasn't comfortable plugging it, changed engine oil twice, final drive once, new plugs, new fuel filter, brake fluid, adjusted valves, new air filter and a few other general maintenance things. I've put 10,000 miles on it since buying it a year ago. It's let me down twice both times in my driveway; once with the aforementioned punctured front tire and the other time with a dead battery. Otherwise as reliable as a rock. My rear tire, mouinted at 49,000 miles, now is about due for a change at 59,000 + I understand bikes with a lot more horsepower eat tires at a much faster rate. (I'm running Perelli Sport Demons.)
Anyone else riding one of these great bikes? I'll try to post a pic or two next time. Also, I had a speedometer issue a few thousand miles ago, which I understand is common on older Ks, especially where it's wet. Of course I did the hardest possible fix first, with no luck; then did the simplest fix with complete success. Must be a lesson in there somewhere! Cheers |
