Skippy first moved to BlueGrass from NJ with his wife and son...
He always lived at Fitz's place from what I can remember...
The wife left after a year.. Grabbed the kid and walked out...

AS I said we will tell all ya want to hear around the bonfire...

I don't know if we have any photos of Skippy....
If we do they would be 35mm .. I don't think we have any digital..

But I'll check into it...

I don't know after Skippy was killed what happened to it...
Ya have to take the wall down to get it out....

Fitz might have taken it out...He's the man who owned the land..

Skippy rode his homemade moped all over VA..
Hack one time HB & I were riding on the BRP .. And who do we pass but Skippy ...
Riding with his leather helmet goggles and smoking a cig...

Yep, gotta hear some of these stories.
Wifey and I will be there, gonna rough it in a cabin tho probably.

That is about as close to "camping" as she gets.

More Skippy

I heard that he made a canoe and put it in the headwaters of the Potomac River and paddled to DC.
He sold the canoe and used the money to buy a bus ticket home.

More stories?

George

Do you have a scanner?
Skip the Hippie may become a legend if we keep his memory alive.

We remember something about the canoe...
Ah my scanner bite the ghost a few years back..

And with our move back in 05... LOL finding 35mm photos are going to be way too much of a challenge ..At this time...

But will try to find something for sure...

I would NEVER call Skippy a Hippie .... He was just a man who lived in the wood with out power...
He was kinda of eccentric .. But a Hippie NO ..

He would work for a few of us in the BlueGrass valley.. I worked on the hay wagons with him for 4 yrs.HB was a driver.
I was a hooker( the person who hooked the hay bale from the shoot ) He was a stacker... Putting up over 15 k bales a year...
Those were that days that HB and I didn't own hay equipment and had to do hay sharing with a our buddy Herman.. We would help him with his 12K bales and he would help us with our 3 K ..
We had just moved to BG from Moyers, had only a Jeep that died on the last load of stuff and only 35 dollars to our names.Coming into winter , with 9 horses.. 6 cats ... And a new / old run down farm ....
That was one of the coldest winters in BG .. we hit temps of -25* .. YES that was the real temp... Our drain lines from the house froze.. We would take turns with a torch trying to thaw the old castiron drain line..This was the MAIN drain line .. This was a real problem ...

I better stop rambling ...

...

How old would he be now if he had lived? Guess?

Skip did what a lot of people aspire to.
Leave the rat race and do your own thing.
A man like that must not be forgotten.

He and I believe were very close to the same age.IICR..Or he was a few years older by a year or 2 ..But not much more..
But to look at him you would have thought he was much older...
Longhair thinning strawberry Blonde, starting male pattern baldness...
Always had a ball cap on ...

But his helmet reminded you of the one on A Christmas story.. The Kid standing in the line ...Say the he liked Santa and the Wizard of OZ...

Yeah but if I tell ya a bunch of stories now .. Wont have many left for BYOB

LOL ....One night he was over having supper with us .. We had just finished dessert,I was in the kitchen .. He thanked me and went out the door .. Got on his bike and headed back home.. it was like 10:30 pm ...

HB comes into the kitchen and said where's Skippy ???
I said he went home.. LOL... HB said he didn't say a word to him...
I told HB he said Thanks ..Catch ya Later....

I guess with all the hours on the Hay wagons .. He could talk to me with more ease...

Oh he's NOT forgotten... He will always be in the memories of the small group of people that lived in BlueGrass...

He truly was the freest man that WE knew...
