I should have back in '94. It's going to be a couple of years yet.

Hi everybody! Looks like I'll be leading a women's ride on Saturday, March 23. I'm planning on doing gravel roads in varying stages of decay but nothing super-technical.

I'll post more details (like route, start time and rendezvous location) as we get closer to March Moto Madness. Feel free to contact me in the meantime if you have any questions.

This is why I'm wary about sex-segregating riding events: "women's" events are usually geared toward novices and not all women are novices. It's patronizing and infantilizing to make the women's ride easier than the men's ride but I want to be welcoming to women who want to ride and have fun but not get caught up in dick-measuring contests.

If there are enough women at MMM this year maybe we can split off into two groups, an easy ride and a hard ride. I'm open to suggestions here.

Thank you for summing up the issue so well. I'm hoping to do some moderate type technical riding, too (I don't mind mixing with the guys for that) but look forward to mixing with more women in the sport on your ride. Different dynamic. Thanks for offering to lead.

Will someone also lead a novice ride open to everyone?

I'd be interested in being a judge for the female dick-measuring contest.

I hear ya. I want to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to ride their own ride.

By all means anyone can ride in any ride they want and the "boys" that are at MMM have no qualms about riding with women & don't mind giving a few pointers.

Part of my thinking about a "womens" ride was that since women haven't been a part of MMM in the past (only because of how it started as a few buddies riding) that we have something to welcome them this year. I don't want it to be patronizing or assumptive that women can't ride with the boys but more of a way for the women to bond with each other and in turn get others involved.

The main thing MMM has always been about is the riding. Lets just expand the circle.

The dick measuring doesn't usually start until after a few beers around the fire, then the amazing feats of the day have grown to epic proportions. Ladies are welcome to join in....

I just want a picture of you setting up the staging area for the group rides, with the signs that say "Fast Women Here" and "Easy Women Here".

There'll be rides for all levels open to anyone that wants to go.
Guided & route sheets.

Nice work, Mark.

This rally was a ton of fun last year. The riding contests, wood gathering contest, etc were a hoot.

I can't wait!
