What, I have to ask, was the explicit intended purpose of this tariff?
Trade wars, politically motivated taxes...no matter what we call it, us citizens get stuck with paying for it in the end. How convenient...taxes do literally grow on trees, apparently. |

If that does increase then i'd say we'll see an increase in shoe production in Mexico as it passes into the US tariff free - NAFTA.
I recently read an article that it is predicted by 2017 Mexico will supply more imports to the US than China. Even though drug violence is a variable, companies will do better cost wise with somewhat higher Mexican labor but alot less shipping and logistics issues. This also helps to keep more Mexicans employed in their own country, which is a benefit for all involved. ...and speaking of the Mexican drug wars, i'm predicting it will tapper of to the point that Mexico will be considered safe again by the media and the dealers have been eliminated. The reality is just a image thing mexico will and needs to do. The new party/president is PRI (Fox & Calderon were PAN) and the PRI ran the country for 70+ years prior. They are corrupt but have a history of working with the drug dealers not fighting them. All this smuggling was going on before but there was not the violence nor the violence. 1 group ran things w/ PRI approval (read cut of $). I'm guessing PRI will pick 1 group as their people and they plus the military will quickly whip out all the rest. Business as usual will continue (on the Mexican side) and the new will just report the military have finally caught all the bad guys and it's safe in again to go to Mex. Of course the wrinkle will be the US stopping the flow but that variable is not scaring people. It's the violence within Mexico and most tourist fly into destinations not drive across border town. Anyway I know that's off topic but that's my prediction.

For bonus points, what do chickens have to do with rear seats in pickup trucks?

I had no idea New Balance still made shoes in the US... makes me want to go out and buy a pair! But looking at their web site, it appears that only a small portion of NB's are made in the US.

but Boian added the administration did not change its position on 10 new MTBs, which include a separate category of leather waterproof and breathable footwear. Boian said the OIA will continue pushing for these bills.

Yes, it appears that shoes that are 'made in the USA' are assembled from materials made elsewhere and some shoes even say made 'elsewhere'. But I will stick with the model I like and hope that manufacturing jobs come back to the US somehow. Here is an article addressing the New Balance claims: http://routingbyrumor.wordpress.com/...sa-yeah-right/
